The one great thing about being sick for a while is that you have a lot of new material to work with when you finally recuperate. But, this is one story that I didn't think I would ever tell. The listing that my buyers have been waiting and waiting and waiting for expired yesterday as we were going to file an extension of the short sale contingency.  I went to prepare the amendment, and I couldn't find the listing.  I finally had to pull up an old listing and found that ours was expired.  On the same day that we were going to file an extension! I have written about this agent before.  Nearly a third of her short sales go expired or canceled.  Not good.  So when I called her to let her know that it was expired, she really didn't know.  And, I had to call her husband who is also an agent ...

Rose Thelen and Pat Sawatzke could be facing each other in November,  They are both sitting commissioners and would have to run against each other in the new redistricting plan and they couldn't overcome the majority in the new redistricting plan for the county.   This will certainly be interesting to watch.  I would rather see St. Michael with Hanover, but time will tell. There will be no further information on this race.  Let me know what you think.

St. Michael was incorporated as a city in 1890 .  You can see many of the old photographs in businesses around town.  St. Michael was originally a village in central Frankfort, Minnesota ,which was started by Germans, but later became its own town in 1934. Frankfort was a combination of present-day Albertville, Minnesota, Hanover, Minnesota, and St. Michael, Minnesota.                                     St. Michael is centrally located between St. Cloud and Minneapolis along Interstate 94, which provides easy access to the Twin Cities and a variety of Minnesota's northern recreational areas.   St. Michael's rural feel, convenient location, good schools and abundant parks, lakes and natural resources, make it a great place to live and work.   There are still spots where you can find ves...

A proposed pet facility will be in front of the city council for a vote Tuesday night The St. Michael Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the new store at the former Sports Diamond (and old flooring spot) at 12246 42nd St. NE in St. Michael, paving the way for a pet store/boarding/possible vet off Highway 241 in eastern St. Michael.. This is so exciting.  Our last pet store moved several years ago, and while we have groomers and a vet in the Albertville St. Michael communities there is a paucity of boarding kennels/facilities.  The request is to have a dog run and dog boarding as part of the complex, something that the city said drew some concerns from neighbors in the industrial and retail complex along Highway 241. The developer continued to work with the city, and sai...

The American Trails organization named Minnesota the “Best Trails State.” The League of American Bicyclists ranked Minnesota the fourth most bike-friendly state in the country. And Minneapolis was named the top bike-friendly city in America by Bicycling magazine. This is great news, and St. Michael and Albertville are very bike-friendly, too.  Our new sidewalks which stretch from south of St. Michael nearly to the Albertville Mall along Labeaux Avenue (or County Road 19) are proof of the commitment these communities have made to pedestrians and bike enthusiasts from across the communities.  Here is some more information from the State of Minnesota on bicycling here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes: "Recreational cyclists can explore one of the largest and best-developed collections of paved ...

It is spring!  Let's celebrate.  We have had some great weather recently, and the urge to purge and to garden is growing stronger day by day.      The St. Michael area residents who would like to get rid of some of that nasty stuff that's hanging out in the basement, garage or storage shed are welcome to participate in the St. Michael Clean-up Day!   Check with the City for more information, but normally you can dispose of old paint CANS, used motor oil, mattresses and some electronic along with the usual junk.  Prices for disposing of these items vary from year to year, so when more information becomes available, I will post it.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, please check with the city at http://www.ci.st-michael.mn.us/           photo by Danilo Rizzuti

The Washington Times is reporting what could be some good news finally in the foreclosure area.     "State and federal officials on Thursday announced a settlement of $26 billion with five of the nation’s banks over flawed and fraudulent foreclosure practices that affected several million homeowners and became commonplace after the housing boom turned to bust in recent years. It is the largest government-industry settlement in more than a decade." What does this mean for Minnesotans?   You can go to the Attorney General's website and get all the information you need.  There will be up to $77 million in direct payments to Minnesota borrowers as follows: Borrowers who were foreclosed on between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011 will be eligible for cash refunds estimated to be around ...

When I started this latest Challenge, I really had no idea about how I would present the required topics.   But, it all unfolded one day at a time.   I reported on Content, Weltenschauung, Community Guidelines, Newcomers, etc.   But, one of my invitees is very close to my heart.  He has taken the invitation to the Rain very seriously. (And, I think, if the economic picture improves, he may even take the plunge into real estate sales.) I posted this photo once earlier in the month when I introduced him as one of my "invitations".   Since that time, Ron Marshall has made it to the 200,000 point threshold.   I wanted to congratulate him.  And, wish him every success in the Rain.   He is participating in the 2012 BIG Jumpstart Challenge, and, he is not holding back.  It took some convincing...

Are you intestate?  That doesn't sound like something good, does it?  There are so many clients I meet that haven't had that conversation with their loved ones, let alone with themselves.  Do you know what will happen to your property, accounts and personal belongings after you are no longer here?  Do you have a painting, a quilt, a favorite fishing rod that you would like a grandson, niece or special friend to have to remember you by? Planning at any stage of life is a good thing.  You might have children.  Have you designated a guardian?  Have you made provisions for life insurance for them?  Do you know how children could pay for a funeral? These are all questions no one wants to think about.  But, since I have three friends who have recently lost loved ones and I have as well, they ...

The annual Fall Fling is October 21,2011, at the Crow River Senior Center.  It should be a great time.  I have volunteered to work at the reception desk, but I would have attended anyway.  There are lots of homemade projects to be had....very nice items for Christmas gifts, a soup and pie luncheon, too. Those women can cook!  There will be chili and at least six other Cook's Choice soups, pies to try and beverages will be provided.  Come and look around.  You can't beat a homemade dishcloth hand-knitted for durability, lingerie dryers, real cotton dishtowels that are hand-embroidered, and a great amount of other goodies. So, if you have time, and want to beat the rush of Christmas-shopping, this would be a great place to start.  See you there.  Lunch is served until about 1:00 p.m.     ...

When this law was first written and the funding was there, this would have been a great program.  Unfortunately, all of the support was taken out of it by the time the bill was initially signed, and then, to the schools, it became an albatross with lots of mandates, but no money to enforce them or assist students.  Now, with Governor Dayton and the Minnesota state teachers' union has it their way, the federal No Child Left Behind program may be a thing of the past for all state schools.  This is from the St.Michael Patch:  The governor announced last week that Minnesota would seek exemption from the law in favor of coming up with their own solution for increasing academic achievement and closing the achievement gap. That's fine with St. Michael-Albertville's new head of schools. “I supp...
