Grosse Ile Michigan - An Island Community Located in the Detroit River

Grosse Ile is the largest island on the Detroit River. Located south of Metro Detroit, Grosse Ile is home to about 11,000 people who enjoy the easy access to the water for boating or the abundance of nature with the superior habitats for birds, mammals, and fish. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township of Grosse Ile Michigan has a total area of 18.3 square miles, of which 9.6 square miles of it (52.6%) is land and 8.7 square miles of it (47.4%) is water. Grosse Ile is actually composed of twelve islands although the community is most often identified with the "main island" (which residents simply refer to as "The Island").
