We advertise.  We put out signs. We hang balloons.  We bake cookies. We invite our fellow realtors.  And no one comes to our party!  I am sure that we all have experienced the frustration of sitting for three or four hours holding an open house and wondering to ourselves if it is all worth it?  Right?  At least that was my thought process until a couple of recent events changed my way of thinking about the positive side of a flopped open house. First of all, I am fortunate to live on Hutchinson Island, Florida where there a lot of homes and condos in a concentrated area.  People are very active here.  Going fishing, boating, beaching, and pursuing all kinds of outdoor activities.  In other words, they get out a lot.  As a new agent, I do not have a great pool of buyers just waiting for ...

Living not far from the Town of Belfast, my wife Bonnie and I love to go there occsionally, just to enjoy the beautiful harbor.  This September 5th we got down there for a few hours to witness the Windjammer Festival.  There were vendors, displays, PIRATES, and of course, Windjammers.  It was a mild day (not too warm) and it was a pleasure strolling around viewing the festivities, and we even ran into some friends. As you travel up the coast of Maine toward Bar Harbor, before reaching Bucksport, you will be greated by the sight of the amazing new bridge accross the Penobscot Narrows.  In one of the towers is an observatory that affords spectacular views of the area.  This can be reached from the entrance to Fort Knox. This fort has a lot more to it than the earthen mounds of other Pre-Civil War forts.  The garrison that housed the troops looks like not a fun place to be, on a par with Alcatraz or Gitmo. This summer has seen lower than average activity in the real estate market with Waldo County taking the largest hit, a drop of 23.16 percent from a year ago. Knox county is down 9.17% over last year and Hancock County down 8.66%. In fact, the only county in Maine that registered an increase was Lincoln County with a 17.65% increase in sales over last year. That market went through a correction last year and was poised for a resurgence. We are currently seeing prices drop like fall apples on the massive housing inventory in the Mid-Coast  region so Buyers should get ready to pick up their dream homes for a reasonable price. There seems to be greater activity this week than we have seen all summer with buyers looking for a second home on the Maine coast and why not? When compared to oceanfr...
