Rosemont Market and Bakery recently expanded its wonderful operation with the much anticipated opening (September 24, 2010 to be exact) of their new location at 580 Brighton Avenue, Portland. Note, they will maintain the original 559 Brighton Avenue location for "manufacturing/preparation" for their three market locations (they have additional locations on Munjoy Hill, Portland, and Main St, Yarmouth). The added space of the new location (formerly Rosemont Pharmacy), provides for more space not only for customers to move about the market, but to enable a more plentiful selection of LOCAL foods. Rosemont Market has an excellent selection of fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and breads...all fresh and grown locally, at very reasonable prices. (Yes, that's right, you can stop shopping at...

A birthday dinner this past week found us on Wharf Street in Portland at Havana South, a delightful new (opened in June 2010) restaurant featuring a Latin inspired menu. While the interior decor offered a fascinating atmosphere and a perfect setting for a calm dining experience, we choose to sit on the outdoor patio overlooking the cobblestoned Wharf street and those passing by. Might I recommend carefully considering the extensive wine list, as we did before being greeted by their in-house wine expert. We made his work easy, opting instead for a carafe of the sangria, which was very pleasant on the warm evening. While awaiting the arrival of our appetizer Lobster Empanada, we enjoyed a basket of cornbread with sweet butter and olive oil. The lobster empanada with the mango sauce held u...

Tweet Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, otherwise known as Lady Gaga thrilled a huge crowd this afternoon in Portland Maine.  The rally organized by the Servicemember's Legal Defense Network was held in Deering Oaks Park near the campus of the University of Southern Maine.  Mainers found out yesterday that Lady Gaga would be speaking, word spread quickly, as local officials scrambled to make plans to handle the anticipated crowds. The rally drew a HUGE crowd and was held without incident.  She was sharp, cutting, and direct while she rallied attendees to contact their Senators and urge them to vote for repeal of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.  I can't say it any better than Lady Gaga, so without further ado, here is a video of her speech today.

Portland Maine trivia has heated up over the past few years with a number of Old Port establishments giving their patrons another reason to frequent downtown, and enjoy some mid-week entertainment and drinks while measuring and matching their wits, or test how quickly they can find the answer on their iPhone or Blackberry as we've seen in some cases (cheaters!...only kidding). Portland, Maine, can chalk up yet another honor with the recent recognition by Outside Magazine and being named near the top of their Top 25 Dream Towns article (August 2010 edition). Portland receives the Best Overall in the East honor, as Outside Magazine referenced the diverse economy in our wonderful city, the low cost of living, and the "small town charm with bigger city opportunities". Pat's Pizza, an icon for years in Orono, has thankfully arrived in Portland's Old Port at 30 Market Street. Owner Chris Tyll, has done a wonderful job capturing the well-known Pat's taste and wide variety of menu options beyond pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches. Pat's Pizza Old Port offers signature pizzas much like the new trend we have come to enjoy from the likes of their competition, Portland Pie Co. and Siano's Pizzeria, though the mainstay offerings like pepperoni, meat lovers, and taco pizza are available as well at affordable prices. A fourteen inch one topping pizza is $10.20, and $3.20 will get you a delicious hamburger. Oh, and did I mention Pat's makes their dough fresh daily, you can request whole wheat or low carb dough, and they even offer a gluten free option. Having grown...

Increased Rental Property Profit Allows You to Take Yourself on Vacation. Portland,ME Take yourself on holiday using your increased rental property income. I was driving home in 11-degree temperatures from a meeting with one of our students. He was sharing with me about his upcoming vacation to warm and sunny Mexico. While some of you reading this are in warmer climes, most of us have been hit by an strangely cold winter and our minds go on vacation more often than our bodies! We all could use a holiday to break up the colder months. Our student mentioned that he skimmed a little off his rental income every month to add to his vacation fund. Not a bad idea I thought as I watched the snow blowing along the side of the road. In most rental situations, the property owner does not have anyt...
