Keller Williams Realty Mid Maine joins the KW Red Day 2010 event, volunteering in our community! Red Day was a great success and a blast for all of us.  This year the agents, staff, and families of Keller Williams Realty Mid Maine had the opportunity to assist new Self Help Homeowners working through the Community Concepts program.  It is kind of central/western Maine's version of Habitat For Humanity.  We joined the soon to be homeowners of 3 new Community Concepts homes in Lewiston Maine, leveling, raking, and seeding their new lawns and completing the interior painting.       The Lewiston Maine police department has just rolled out it's interactive police log website.  The city of Lewiston is one of only 8 cities nationwide to provide this service through RaidsOnline.com.  Ok, the name needs a little work, but the police department is hopeful that this new web feature will help Lewiston citizens to know what is going on in their neighborhood and perhaps become more involved with local community watch programs. The free and easy exchange of information between citizens and police has been shown to help reduce crime in other areas.  Lewiston has actually been previously named as an "All American City" and does not have an unusually high crime rate, but the city and police force are taking this proactive step to further improve their efforts.  Crime data...

What the Mortgage Backed Securities Market is Doing Today: The price of the FNMA 30-Year 4.5% MBS coupon opened at 101.19 this morning - down 3/32 from Friday's close. The FNMA 30-Year 4.5% MBS coupon is currently trading at 101.22 - up 1/32 from it's opening (as shown by the blue line). Last Friday, MBS closed down 19/32 for the day, and was 10/32 down for the week at 101.28. I am finding that today's market is more of a "normal" market. A few years ago just about anyone could walk into a mortgage company and get a home loan with little to no money down and marginal credit. Today with the foreclosures of those loans and adjustable rate mortgages, there has been some tightening of the reins as far as getting a home loan. However, it is still possible to receive a home loan with a great rate with little to no money down. If you are thinking of buying in today's market, I would not hesitate to sit with a mortgage broker and a realtor like myself and see what your options are. It is a great time to buy and there is nothing to be afraid of! Give me a call for a free consultation today!

Thorncrag Bird SanctuaryThorncrag Bird Sanctuary in Lewiston, a 312-acre wildlife preserve, has been the primary focus of The Stanton Bird Club for more than 80 years. At an elevation of 510 feet, the highest point in the city, this sanctuary sits as a green capstone, a forested oasis surrounded on three sides by urban and suburban development. The "Crag", belonging to the family Thorne in the 1800's, is a familiar and well-loved landmark in Lewiston. The human use of this land over the decades has been as varied as the habitats and wildlife it has always protected. Uses have included: recreation and scientific research by Bates College, a sheep and dairy farm, tuberculosis sanitorium, homestead for the reclusive Elder Thorne, and facility for Highland Spring Bottled Water Company.Thorn...

Those of you from the old days may remember the the series F-Troop that aired in the mid 60's.  The character Chief Wild Eagle used the line "It is Balloon" quite often when he saw a hot air balloon.  For the younger crowd I'm sure L/A brings to mind the Lewiston / Auburn area of Maine.  The twin cities are always referred to as LA and this weekend was the 15th annual Great Falls Balloon Festival. We travel to Maine quite often during the summer months and have been in town on several occasions during festival weekend.   This year we decided to do the overnight run so we would be there for the first launch scheduled at 6:00am  Friday morning. Launch conditions were perfect and the first Balloon was in the sky at about 6:15.  The field at the newly named Simard-Payne Memorial Park was fil...
