Some of my fondness high school memories are the bonds with cross country and basketball teammates at Wheaton High School, home of the Knights in Wheaton, MD. i was not the greatest player ever but I got the opportunity to learn discipline and team work. it has almost been twenty years since I graduated and headed to college, and i continue to support the high school team through  contributions as my school continues to build the program thru the coaching wisdom of Coach H. Of the 16 on the market FOR RENT, the least expensive is a one-bedroom condo apartment listed at $995/month, which includes some of your utilities.  While there is a four-bedroom and even a five bedroom home on the market, the most expensive RENTAL is a three-bedroom three full bath townhouse within walking distance of the subway station listed for $2,500.   The remaining 96 home are FOR SALE, the least expensive is a one-bedroom one bath apartment listed for $95,000. Charles M. Goodman (1906-1992) was an American architect who made a name with his mid-century modern/contemporary designs in suburban Washington, D.C. after World War II including homes in Wheaton. Goodman designed the original National Airport outside of Washington, D.C.  After attending the Illinois Institute of Technology, Goodman came to D.C. in 1934 to work as the designing architect in the Public Buildings Administration.  He later served as head architect at the Treasury Department and the Air Transport Command.  After World War II he worked closely with Robert C. Davenport designing and site planning most of the Hollin Hills neighborhood in Alexandria, VA where his firm, Charles M. Goodman Associates designed over 14 models of houses. Lovely Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland As a local girl who grew up in Wheaton, Maryland, I thought I knew everything about the area. One day, when I was teaching at John F. Kennedy High School in zipcode 20902, a friend asked me if I wanted to walk at Brookside Gardens during our lunch hour. I said sure, not really knowing what she was talking about. I was in for a wonderful surprise. I was soon walking on carefully manicured paths among some of the most beautiful flowers and trees I had ever seen. Not too long ago, one of my favorite restaurants ran into a bit of trouble. El Pollo Rico in Wheaton, Md was charged with operating a cash business and maybe not reporting all of the income. A raid was conducted an apparently several of the employees had overlooked the proper immigration procedures. The owners of the restaurant have been charged with assisting these employees and maybe paying them cash and offering them living accomodations. That part of the story piqued my interest. It appears that these folks have been big real estate investors locally. But I digress. There were police and fbi and ins and all the usual suspects showing up to shut down this cash cow. Customers were rousted from their chairs and made to forfeit meals paid for but uneaten. The government did it's job and... 08/06/2007
