IS BUYING A HOME IN TODAY'S ECONOMY A GOOD IDEA? As a long-term investment, homeownership is still one of the best investments for individual households. "Why" you may ask? After all, the headlines say the housing market is down and out, with defaults rising at an alarming rate, and mortgage markets so frozen that buyers can't get a home loan at any price. What buyers need to realize is that housing markets, like all markets, inevitably have their ups and downs. And homeownership has a track record that is virtually unmatched by any other purchase in terms of its real benefits. Homeownership's Real ValueHere are a few examples of why, dollar for dollar, homeownership is a solid stepping stone to a future of financial security and the single largest creator of wealth for many Americans....

I've discovered the perfect place for a business meeting, a bridal luncheon, new-home gift shopping, or just relaxing in comfort. This gem has been around for several years, but it's tucked in among shops in the back of a suburban shopping area.Step inside the Enchanted Herb and Tea Room and you're greeted by wonderful scents and the smiling face of Clinton Spellman. Clinton has created a combination shop and café in Owings Mills, MD, not far from the Beltway, that's close to my office but hidden and therefore private. He remembers you from one visit to the next, and always has something delicious on the menu. The atmosphere is very homey and welcoming, which made it the perfect place to meet my friend Lauren recently. Tea is the centerpiece, with way too many for me to pick from, so I ...

I am confused to why home buyer's wait until a Seller's market to buy a Home.  In a Seller's Market their is a lack of inventory, to much competition and you are buying at the top of the scale.  In a Buyer's Market you have more inventory to choose from, lower sales prices, can request more repairs and basically control the transaction.Yes their is a lot of talk about mortgage woes...it means that they are not quite as flexible as previously. It does not mean they are not giving out mortgages or the world has stopped.  FHA and other loans are still available for those that may be credit impaired and loans all always available for those with perfect credit.  Now if you are not moving because you can't sell your home. First and foremost price your home correctly and make sure it is ready t...

Buying a home is like investing in your future.  Your home becomes your savings account. If purchased properly it can become your retirement account, funds for college tuition, vacations and more. Buying in a not so great market is like buying stocks market is down.  Everything down will go up.  Home Buyers of today will become the Home Sellers of last year.  What I do suggest is that Buyers choose the correct financing when purchasing a home.  Some things to consider when purchasing;  How long will they live in the property?, Will the home be considered  an investment?, Do you anticipate job changes, children or relocation in the future?, etc.  The answer to some of these questions will help in selecting the correct mortgage and buying what you can afford.  For additional tools in sele...

People who know the rules of credit will get better rates and service. Most of us need to perform regular maintenance on our reports. What actually goes into a credit score:Credit scoring is made up of a complex mathematical formula. There are many variable bits of information that go into a score. The score that you get reflects what the credit report contains, who is pulling the score and what kind of software they are using. Your score from Experian, Equifax, or Trans Union can change from HOUR TO HOUR or Day to Day.A person's overall credit profile will determine the importance of the following factors:35% of a borrower's score is determined by their track record. The Payment History shows how they have handled credit in the past, if they have paid promptly or slowly, and if there a...

Being a old head in this business of some 30+ years. It really blows my mind how far we have come, and what can be done, with the greatest of ease. I remember when I first purchased my company, the trouble putting together a simple brochure was. God forbid, you had a address or a phone number change. One of the reason I joined one of the large franchise, was preprinted material and marketing. Thanks to the Internet and all the new technology, leaving the franchise four years ago, was such a scary thought and has turned out pretty well. You have to keep up with technology and keep a open mind to change. I'm enjoying the business, as much as ever. I have added a blog to the company website www.buysellbaltimore.comand I have started a new blog site called Charm City Blog on word press. Thi...
