Driveway-Paving Scams Warning As the warm weather approaches, the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) is warning homeowners about driveway-paving scammers who typically look to exploit them in spring. These scammers are a common problem not only in Montgomery County, but also across Maryland. Homeowners should be aware and take appropriate measures to avoid falling victim to it.In the last year, OCP has been taking measures against individuals who performed unlicensed home improvement work, particularly those who conducted driveway paving. As a result, civil and criminal charges have been issued against them, and several have been issued arrest warrants. Free Animation Workshops for Teens and Tweens Montgomery County Public Libraries will host animation workshops for children aged 10-15 during the week of March 25-29, coinciding with Montgomery County Public Schools’ spring break. Maryland Hunters Harvest 72,642 Deer for 2023-2024 SeasonPhoto by Debbie Blair, submitted to Maryland DNR Photo Contest.The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reported that deer hunters harvested 72,642 deer during the combined archery, firearms, and muzzleloader seasons, from Sept. 8, 2023 through Feb. 3, 2024.The statewide harvest included 30,025 antlered and 38,511 antlerless white-tailed deer, and 1,912 antlered and 2,194 antlerless sika deer. National Pi Day Celebration on March 14 Mathnasium of Gaithersburg will be celebrating National Pi Day on March 14 in partnership with Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando. Free Trees Available for Maryland’s ‘Backyard Buffers’ A streamside buffer can create habitat for wildlife, reduce peak summer temperatures​, and reduce the amount of sediment, fertilizer and toxic materials that enter our waterways. To bolster this green infrastructure throughout Maryland, the Department of Natural Resources is now offering free tree seedlings to landowners statewide who have a creek, drainage ditch, stream, or other waterway on or near their property through the Backyard Buffers program.
