It's September and the smell of Football is in the air in Baltimore. The Cincinnati Bengals are in town for the season opener. Baltimore's Nemesis in seasons past. Time to pull out the black and purple. Hurricane Hanna made a visit yesterday, but today it's going to be a perfect Football Day. New season, new Coach and new Quarterback. M&T Bank Stadium also celebrates 10 years. The first game in the stadium in the heart of downtown Baltimore was on September 6th 1998. I LOVE living in a Football Town. If you want to make the move to the Baltimore be sure to call me, Ellie McIntire for all of your Real Estate needs. Saying a fond farewell to Summer is bitter sweet. I love the Autumn months and the beauty of nature here in Maryland. I enjoy crisp mornings and being able to open all of my windows and not rely on the air conditioner unit. But at the end of Summer Opie's Soft Serve and Snowballs closes it's doors windows for another season. Located on Edmondson Avenue beside the 7/11 sits a free standing building that opens late into the summer evenings. Fresh faced high School & College kids are always pleasant and quick to serve. They offer 4 sizes of snowball in an amazing 39 different flavors. But I am not a snowball kinda gal. Give me "soft-serve" any day. Twice a week or so after I collect my son from daycare, we stop in for a cone. As we pull into the parking lot he shreaks "ice-cream" with deli...

If you were the other side of the pond this weekend maybe you would have found yourself in London attending the Notting Hill Carnival 2008. It is London's most vibrant celebration of diversity, color and sound. An amazing street carnival that runs 24/7 for 3 days. This year August 23rd till August 25th. Originally started as an offshoot of the Trinidad Carnival in 1964, the Notting Hill Carnival has become an internationally acclaimed event which remains true to its Caribbean roots. Over the last four decades, it's matured into a melting pot of diverse cultural and musical genres that come together in modern West London streets.       Speaking from experience, this is the most energetic weekend that you will ever encounter. Need to lose a few pounds, head to London next August.

Obviously the world watched in awe as Michael Phelps dove in the pool for the 8th time as part of the mens 400 meter mens medley relay on Sunday August 17th 2008 in Beijing. Victory gave Phelps his 8th Gold medal. The record of 7 gold medals in one Olympic meet held by Mark Spitz since the 1972 Munich Games has now been beaten by a swimmer who was not even born in 1972. As Americans we celebrate, but as Baltimoreans we are doing back flips. On Saturday evening more than 10,000 of the 70,585 fans who had been present for the Ravens v's Vikings game at M&T Bank Stadium stayed to watch on the big screen, Phelps swim - and win. He's a local boy and Maryland is proud. I wonder if Governor O'Malley will declare August 17th "Michael Phelps Day"?

It has been over 7 months since my partner and I opened our own brokerage in Catonsville at 606 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228. My last blog on this site was about the white house on Ingleside that remained as our office for over 16 years.  Both Ruben Gaimaro (my partner) and I have wonderful memories of the office and our colleagues at Remax Suburban West.  The white house was known for the lights in the windows and the christmas decorations.  We decided to find an office in Catonsville when we realized that the real estate market was trending down and it was going to take a couple of years before it returns to a level of normalcy.  We took over the office of a successful brokerage when they decided to relocate.  It took over Four months for us to bring the office to our expecta...

Independence Day on July 4th is always a very good day for me. 20 years ago I chose to come and live in this great country and I am honored now to be an American Citizen. There is no place on earth like it. I never take my freedom for granted and I appreciate all the hospitality this county has given me. My son is a first generation patriot and already waves the flag proudly. (Although it is by his side in this picture)

This is just a trial run to see if I can sucessfully embed my video into my post! What it shows is a native Catonsville chap doing what many other Catonsville folk do this time of year- strip their decks and patios and put them on the main High Street (Frederick Road) for a week. It's a Catonsville thing- Quirky and crazy. All in preparation for the big 4th of July Parade Obviously I got busted on this one! It's raw, and I am learning. I probably should have turned Thomas the Tank Engine down for a short time, but the inevitable protestation that would have occured from the back seat would have been more disturbing. He was doing this for his friends- he is going down the "Oshun Hon", it's a merlin thing!

I first met Barry when he was working at First Equity Mortgage in Catonsville in 1998. We did some business together and became friends, sometimes meeting with our wives for dinner or a movie. I am looking forward to moving to the retail side of the business and working with Barry at PRMI. Funny enough, Barry's office is in the same building where we first met ten years ago.

While shopping at a local children's consignment shop Just Arrived 618 Edmondson Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228 ph. 410-747-8080, I found that they were going to be closing their doors.  It is always sad when a locally owned and operated business closes.  Hopefully the landlord will be able to get another quality business in that location.  The owner, Kelly Whorton, had offers to buy her out, but the landlord chose not to accept the offers.  I bought my 2 year old a few items that I will have to store, but I couldn't pass up the great deal on beautiful items.  All the best Kelly! If you are looking for a great place to pick up gently used, and sometimes clothes that are new with tags, stop by Kelly Whorton's shop.  Everything is 50% off.

Real Estate a few years ago was the best market for Sellers when it was time to sell. You would place a home on the market, and within sometimes an hour sellers would have one or more offers on their property. "NOT ANY MORE". In todays market sellers are taking a beating from buyers. The foreclosure rates are at a all time high and if you begin to get behind on your mortgage payments, you can't wait till the last minute.

I was in an housing forum the other day and I was surprised at what I was reading.  Realtors were blamed for the rise of foreclosures.  Although it seemed to be one person leading this mutiny, their were others who agreed.  Being a full-time Realtor for over 8 years, I do not remember having the capability of approving a mortgage nor can I loan money.  I also have never had the capability of submitting appraisals or doing inspections.  Nor can I make a decision for a family on what they can or can not afford. So in other words the financial decisions are not controlled by the Realtors.  Each person has a job to do, even the Buyers and the Sellers.  This forum also indicated that many Realtors were trying to fool people into thinking that buying is better than renting.  No one can fool s...
