Do No Harm to Real Estate and OPPOSE the Veto Override for HB 933   As you may know, currently the Maryland General Assembly is in Special Session. In addition to redistricting, Members of the General Assembly are also considering a veto override for HB 933 -- transfer tax enabling legislation for a Housing Trust Fund for Anne Arundel County.   To be clear, Maryland REALTORS is not opposed to the idea of a Housing Trust Fund, however, we are opposed to using an increase in transfer taxes and recordation taxes as the funding mechanism. Real estate has contributed enough money to the counties revenues – nearly 60% of revenues come from real estate taxes and fees.     Additionally, Maryland has an existing affordability issue -- and while this tax is targeted on higher-cost homes -- makin...

She would be 80 on her next birthday, and she called me to help sell her condo. She told me what she owed, plus there was a considerable assessment she was responsible for and had borrowed a "few dollars" from her brother. He was considering it a gift and not expecting anything. So as always, when listing a client, I knew her bottom line. She only hoped to break even-no more. So we met, and  I listed her condo. Even though it needed work, we were getting contracts.  Each offer would have cleared her debt, but that was not enough for me. With ...

Promoting Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) in Maryland is an ideal solution to expand housing opportunities. Many states  have passed laws that allow multiple housing units to exist on a lot that was formally established as a single family property. An ADU is like a second back yard house or "Granny Flat". A home owner could utilize the ADU as a long term rental to offset mortgage payments or have In-Laws move in , but not literally in their house. This is a great way to help fill the housing shortage, expand the affordable housing stock available, increase density while limiting urban sprawl, and provide home owners an additional source of income on their existing investment.  To learn more visit:https://opendoorsmaryland.org/#OpenDoorsMD
