Boston Magazine has this year listed Milton, MA in its "Best Places to Live" feature article. This marks the second year in a row that Milton has made the list.  It is not hard to figure out why Milton is a great town. First, Milton is located only 8 miles from downtown Boston, a commuter's dream.  A train ride into town takes a mere 15 minutes. Second, it has a great school system, with students consistently scoring high marks on state-wide exams.  Third, Milton has a great mix of local business, with restaurants, shops and small grocery stores easily accessible from all parts of town. But the main reason Milton is a great place to live is......the view from the Blue Hills: BUT Boston Magazine is not alone.  In 2009, Money magazine listed Milton 5th in its annual "Best Places To Live" ...

Milton's Favorite Ice Cream Shop Celebrates 35th Anniversary Well, technically it is located just over the border in Dorchester Lower Mills but a favorite ice cream spot for Milton MA residents, The Icecreamsmith, will celebrate it's 35th Anniversary when it opens for the 2011 Season tomorrow, March 1st.  It is hard for me to believe that it will be 35 years because, well, I remember when it first opened!  The Icecreamsmith is a small ice cream parlor that features its own, handmade ice cream. The ice cream is made right there on the premises.  It is delicious all by itself.  Or, you can have them mix in a favorite add-in - like Oreo cookie crumbs, peanut butter cups, M&M's and more.  My personal favorite is their chocolate ice cream with Reese's peanut butter cups mixed in. My mouth is...

Posted on February 10, 2011 by Larry Lawfer Milton, MA 02186 market reports show the active and sold single family homes over the last three months.  I take this approach because it is the same approach that the banks and lenders take when looking at valuing homes for sales and loans. Active Homes over the last three months in the Milton,  MA 02186 area are as follows: There are 66 active home for sale with an Average list price of $851,089.  These home are on the market for an average of 188.02 Days (DOM).  Keep in mind that these are averages prices ranged from an affordable $265,000 up to a lofty $4,999,000. One of the things I love most about Milton is its commitment to early childhood education.  I have previously written about some of Milton's early childhood programs here: http://d69ec52.activerain.com/post/1753672/milton-ma-early-education-schools Today, I have learned that the Milton Early Childhood Alliance is sponsoring a workshop for parents of children who are old enough to enter kindergarten in the upcoming school year.  The presentation entitled: "Kindergarten: Your child's next big step" will be presented by Cheryl Brown on Tuesday, February 15 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Milton Early Childhood Alliance, 495 Canton Ave. Free childcare will be provided. Milton MA Real Estate Milton is located next door to Canton and is the town where I grew up. Like Canton, it has a small-town feel but is easily accessible to Boston, with either the historic Red Line Trolley or various bus routes to take you to the subway into Boston. Milton has the distinction of having recently been named as one of the top places in the country to live in Money Magazine and is home to the current Governor of Massachusetts. With an excellent school system, one of Milton's schools features a French Immersion program. This is an elementary school program where all of the classes are taught completely in French, producing well rounded and bi-lingual students. Milton is also home to the prestigious private boarding school, Milton Academy and was once home to President Geo...

I wrote a blog a couple of weeks back entitled Time to Win.  It was about my son and his attitude.  It was about what he said to me when my wife and I dropped him off for this semester.  Well now we have heard more from his school.  He has achieved the highest honors.  Of course we are proud of him, but I reflect back on his efforts and think how can his example help me be better today and tomorrow and the next day.  It is so important to have people and events to motivate you each day.  Today is another proud dad day for me.

This is one of the beauties of our real estate career, right?  This is also the ruin of a good career.  I am not suggesting that taking a day off will ruin your day, but I am saying straying from your daily routines because of some outside influence (read Record Snowfalls in the Northeast.) can ruin your career.  Professionals stick to their Time Blocked activities, think the Postal Creed through rain and sleet and snow....I was thinking about an old movie, Kramer Vs Kramer and a scene with Dustin Hoffmann.  He had to get a job during the year, he had been laid off from a good job as an Creative Director of an Ad Agency, and was about to loose custody of his son because of it.  He was at an interview during a Christmas party his new agency was having.  They were making him an incredible...

Last week the Board of Selectmen voted to implement single-stream recycling in Milton. Single-stream recycling refers to a system in which all paper and containers are mixed together in a collection truck, instead of being sorted into separate bins by the homeowner. Waste Management, the company that collects garbage for the town, will provide "recycling" stickers that can go on any size container. Residents will continue to put ordinary trash in separate cans. Milton has a "pay as you throw" system, with a charge per barrel of trash.
