Roosevelt Farms - Hopkinton Massachusetts In Hopkinton, Massachusetts, the streets -  Bullmoose Run, Rough Rider Ridge, Roosevelt Lane and Cubs Path make up the subdivision known as Roosevelt Farms.  This picturesque cul-de-sac neighborhood is popular for its location which is convenient to the MBTA train station, Route 495 and the Mass Pike as well as its proximity to the Hopkinton Country Club.   View a satellite image of the neighborhood. The World War I Memorial statue "The Doughboy" proudly stands guard over Hopkinton at the Town's center.  The monument was erected in the 1920s to honor the Hopkinton citizens who served in the First World War. Why "Doughboy?" The actual origin of the word is unclear.  The explanation most cited is that the term arose out of the Mexican-American War after observers saw that U. George V. Brown Statue At the official starting point of the Boston Marathon, on the Common in Hopkinton MA, George V. Brown stands ready, to signal the start of the annual race.  Known as Hopkinton's "First Citizen of Sport," he served as the starter for the Boston Marathon for 33 years.  For 11 of those years he also managed the race.  Brown had four sons and three daughters and since 1905, for every year except one, a member of the Brown family has been the starter of the annual race.  George V's grandson, Walter F. Hopkinton Massachusetts has just been named to the Money Magazines prestigious list of the best places to live in the US for 2009! Not only did Hopkinton make the list but they broke the top 20 coming in at #19. The awards just continue to roll in for Hopkinton, as this latest award is fresh on the heels of Hopkinton High School making Newsweek Magazine top 500 Schools for 2009. This is the 2nd consecutive year that Hopkinton has made Newsweek's list for bragging rights as one of the best school systems in the country. This wonderful tradition of celebrating our nations birthday with a parade- in this case its called "the Horribles parade" every year with a different theme.
