Every year, the Canton Food Pantry provides the fixings for Thanksgiving Dinner to hundreds of its clients who otherwise would not be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner.   In addition to the regular donations of canned vegetables, stuffing mix, canned gravy and other staples, there is a special call out for donations of pies for Thanksgiving.  Unfortunately, they are not able to accept home made pies so they must be store-bought pies.  The Food Pantry is asking every family who is able to donate two pies. On Friday, November 22nd, it is time for the Canton Alliance for Public Education (otherwise known as CAPE)  Annual Spelling Bee.  This is truly a feel-good and fun event that brings everyone together.  The early part of the evening, starting at 6:00 pm, features Spelling Teams from Canton's three elementary schools.  There are 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teams, made up of five members, that compete against the teams from the other elementary schools to boast for top honors for the year for each grade.  It is an honor just to be on a team and it is all done for fun!  The Middle School competition features teams from each of the three grades who compete to be the Middle School Winner and the High School has teams from each of its four grades competing for High School Winner.  After a short br... 11/17/2013

Omigod you guys!!  It is time once again for the Canton High School Drama Club's annual fall musical!   If the first line didn't tip you off.....this year's show is "Legally Blonde the Musical."  Based on the book and 2001 movie of the same name, Legally Blonde is the story of sorority girl Elle Woods, who gets herself into Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend.  The movie was turned into a musical that opened on Broadway in 2007. Auditions at Canton High took place on the second week of school in September and the cast and crew have been working hard ever since.  The final touches are being put on this week as performance day draws near. Cantonstock returns to Canton on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Canton High School.  Cantonstock will feature performances from ALL of the performing groups from the Canton Public Schools, as well as arcade games, food, raffle items and more!  It will be a fun and entertaining day for Canton residents of all ages.   Cantonstock is the major fundraiser for MusicCounts!, Canton's music booster organization.  Thanks to the generosity of the MusicCounts!,  not to mention the tireless work of its volunteers, all after-school music programs have been fully funded since 2009.   The mornings are crisp and cool.  The leaves are starting to turn into beautiful colors.  It's Fall in New England. One of my favorite times of year.  And that means that Halloween is around the corner! One of the nice things about living in a smaller town like Canton MA are the annual traditions.  It is time once again for the annual Halloween parade through Canton center.  This year's parade will be on Sunday October 27th at 1:00 pm. Participants should arrive by 12:30 pm. On September 21 and 22, the Life Is Good Festival returns to Canton MA for the fourth year in a row! Put on by the Life Is Good company (you know the ones - you've seen the t-shirts with the smiling face), this festival is a fundraiser to help kids overcome life-threatening challenges, like illness, violence and poverty. 100% of the proceeds go to charity. Past years have been a success. In 2010, they raised $725,000, while $1,000,000.00 was raised both in 2012 and 2013 for the Life Is Good Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to helping children overcome obstacles like poverty, violence and illness. Quite often after the result of a home inspection there are some issues to be addressed.  They range from small items from fixing a toilet, repairing loose shingles to replacing a component of a furnace. Should you ask the Seller to repair the item or ask for a credit? Buyers often want the Seller to repair those items.  They're going to be moving in, they don't want the hassle of calling someone, they dont know who to call or they may not have the extra cash in hand to have the repairs done.  The problem is - you are relying on someone else to take care of this work and have no control over the level of quality for the repairs.  A repair agreement or rider to a purchase and sale agreement can be drafted to spell out the details but in spite of best efforts, I often find the agreements ... 08/14/2013

It is that time of year again!  Time to celebrate our country's freedom and independence.  Bring out the red, white & blue, gather the family for a cookout or picnic, watch a parade, head to the beach, watch the fireworks!  It's my favorite time of year. If you are going to be in Canton MA, this weekend, there are plenty of festivities sponsored by the Canton Recreation Department. It is a special election to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the appointment of Senator John Kerry to be the Secretary of State.  If you watch TV you've seen the commercials but recent news reports say that many people do not realize there is an election coming up! I'm Just A Bill.....sitting up on Capitol Hill. Those of us who grew up in the 1970's remember the short animated educational clips that were broadcast during our Saturday morning cartoons. The one I remember the most is "I'm Just a Bill" that explained how a bill becomes a law.  The series was called Schoolhouse Rock. It is time for the 2013 Annual Town Meeting in Canton MA. That's right....time for all the registered voters in Canton MA to come together to make decisions regarding town finances, zoning bylaws and more.  I look forward to it every year! For those who do not know, Canton MA has an Open Town Meeting form of government.  There is a five-member Board of Selectmen who run the town and oversee the town administrator, but the legislative body is made up of the citizens of Canton.  All registered voters in Canton MA are eligible to attend and vote at the Annual Town Meeting. The 12th Annual Luce School 5 K Fun Run/Walk and Childrens Fun Run will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013, starting at 10:00 am at the Luce Elementary School in Canton MA.  This event is run by and for the benefit of the Dean S. Luce School Canton Association of Parents and Teachers (CAPT) but is really an event for the entire Canton MA community.   The event was originally the idea of a couple of teachers who came to the CAPT to promote it as a fun event and not necessarily a fundraiser.  It has turned into a good fundraiser and a fun annual event in the Town of Canton.  The event kicks off at 10:00 am with the half-mile childrens run for ages 4-8, followed by a mile childrens run for ages 9-12.  The big event, the 5K run for all ages, starts at 11:00 am.  All the children in the children... 05/03/2013
