Boston, MA Real Estate News

By Ruth Lerner
(William Raveis Real Estate)
No one should be surprised at the hot Brighton MA Real Estate market. Current market conditions in the Brighton MA condo market were easy to predict, as they are part of a decade long cycle we see in real estate. Now one of the hottest condo markets in the Boston area, Brighton's better condos are on the market 2-7 days, and enjoy rising prices.   The writing was on the wall.  Look at the falling average days on market, plunging nearly 40% in 2012 from the previous year.  Prices went up and the average sale price / list price ration went up.   What does that mean: condo sellers in Brighton MA are asking for more money, and getting more of it.  This is great news for home sellers, but poses some difficulties to the buyers out there, often feeling the frustration of multiple offer situati...

Hudson Book Sellers: Logan Airport in Boston, MA the Holiday BOOK TREE As most of you know book stores are few and far in between now days. Every time we travel we try to support all the Booksellers around the country. Needless to say we love the Hudson Book Store at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). Diane had to fly back to Boston, MA and on her way out of the Terminal she saw the Hudson Book Store and it was not a small little satellite store, rather it was a full size Book Store. She snapped this picture and wanted to share with meJ and of course in turn I had to share with you. At the same time I would like to wish you all the warmest of Holiday Season and hope your life will be full of joy and laughter now and in the future! Earlier today I received news that once again, Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino is pushing for onerous and unprecedented control over rental properties. In November 2012, the Boston City Council struck down a similar measure as being duplicative of current rental housing laws (which are some of the most stringent and tenant-focused in the nation) that protect tenants for substandard rental properties that do not comply with the State Sanitary Code. The City has systems, staff, regulations and legal options already at their disposal to deal with sub-par landlords - this is clearly an effort to "kill a fly with a sledgehammer". This new legislation would require all landlords (including individual condo owners who rent their units to others) to register their property with the City, undergo ...

While the majority of conversations surrounding the fiscal Cliff are about tax increases and spending, the impact it will have on home owners looking to do a short sale is significant. It is estimated that there will be nearly 350,000 short sales in 2013. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that this amounts $1.3 Billion Dollars of taxes that will need to be paid by home owners that do a short sale, if nothing is done.  The particular piece of legislation that needs to be extended to stave off this massive tax hike for distressed home owners is The Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act. This Act enables homeowners to avoid paying taxes on income (in the form of written off debt) that results from doing a short sale. For Example if you purchased a home for $150k and complete a shor...
