Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium is a stadium in Manhattan, Kansas. It is used solely for American football, and is the home field of the Kansas State University Wildcats. Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium opened as KSU Stadium in 1968, with a capacity of 35,000. It was the replacement for Memorial Stadium, which hosted Kansas State football games since 1922 (and is still standing today). Tuttle Creek Lake is a man-made reservoir on the Big Blue River 5 miles (8 km) north of Manhattan, in the Flint Hills region of northeast Kansas. It was built and is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers for the purpose of flood control. The border between Riley County (on the west) and Pottawatomie County (on the east) is submerged underneath the lake. The longest bridge in Kansas spans its northern tip. The construction of the dam was given impetus by the Great Flood of 1951, which inundated downtown Manhattan. Nevertheless, the project met with heavy opposition from landowners whose land faced flooding. When the lake began filling up in 1962, it affected ten towns and entirely submerged many of them.
