In a slow economy, downtown Newburgh grows. Many downtown areas have been hit hard in recent years, but others have managed to strive. During an economic slow down it is not uncommon to see signs for going out of business sales, but it is uncommon in downtown Newburgh. Since January, the downtown has seen six new businesses, and it is expecting even more. Shops, restaurants and bits of history line the streets of downtown Newburgh, making it a welcoming destination. The fifth annual Historic Newburgh, Wine, Art & Jazz Festival will be held Saturday, May 15, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Old Lock and Dam Park. The cost is $15 per person and $25 per couple. An Arizona-based real estate investment trust says it has completed the purchase of a five building medical office portfolio in Evansville and Newburgh for $45.2 million. Healthcare Trust of America Inc. acquired 260,500 square-feet of space currently leased to Deaconess Clinic Inc. The buildings are located near the Deaconess Hospital campus. Healthcare Trust of America, Inc. ("HTA"), a self-managed, non-traded, real estate investment trust, announced the completed purchase of a five building medical office portfolio located in Evansville and Newburgh, Indiana for $45,256,500. Newburgh has been awarded a $50,000 grant which it will use to fund a downtown revitalization planning study, according to Cynthia Burger, town manager. The grant money comes from the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Indiana's Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) administers the grants. The study will assess the city's downtown area and business district and provide recommendations with cost estimates for improvements. Items in the study will include: sidewalk and curb improvements, storm drainage and utility issues, streetscaping and beautification projects and other strategies to create a more economically viable downtown district. The 2009 Evansville Living Idea Home will be open for tours Saturday through Sept. 20. Tours will be held from 11 a.m. to7 p.m. daily. BOONVILLE, Ind. - The Warrick County Industrial Park outside the county seat was underutilized for years with several properties idle. No more. "We've filled all but one of the sites, and we've got three people coming to look at that remaining space," Larry Taylor, the director of the Economic Development Department, said Monday. "We're starting to see the results of the county's investments in infrastructure." Prime Foods, a company that processes egg products and salad bar supplies, "has been up and running on about eight acres for some time now," Taylor noted.
