So how are homes selling in St. Clair County Illinois this year as compared to May 2010? In May 2011 there was 184 homes that sold vs. last year 268 sold in May 2010. That is a long way from the 2006 total number of homes that sold, which was 357 houses that year. But we are on the increase for the year, as so far the numbers are running January 2011 at 122, Feburary was 153, March 173, and April 179. And as the number of homes selling has gone down, so has the Median Home Price in St. Clair County. Here are the median prices for the last six years: 2006 $123,600, 2007 $142,450, 2008 $132,000, 2009 $124,500, 2010 $127,350 and this year $117,450, which is the lowest home prices since 2006. The 184 home sales in May 2011 represents the highest number of homes to sell since August 2010 whe...

Wild & 'Whacky' Guessing Game in Belleville, Illinois Since it's Wednesday, I thought I'd challenge the groups to be on the wild & 'whacky' side and play a guessing game. The metal sculpture below is one of the three sculptures installed on the western corner of what we call, The Square or The Fountain, on Main Street in Belleville, Illinois. (Actually the square is a roundabout, like the one around L'Arc de Triomphe in L'Paris.) This sculpture was donated to the City of Belleville by a private citizen. The artist already titled the sculpture, but since it's Wild Wednesday, guess the one word title to this sculpture--to see if you can capture the artist's vision of this piece. Only one word...if you guess it correctly... you're a winner! Don't guess if you're looking for homes in Bellev...

Matthew 16:18 (The Message)  17-18Jesus came back, "God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn't get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am. And now I'm going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out. CH__CH What's missing? UR - don't miss going to Church! Jesus loves the church. He gave His life for the church. If you are ever going to be victorious in the spiritual battles of life, you must realize that Christianity is not a “Lone Ranger” religion. The church is here to bind together and win the battle together. The famous old hymn “On...

What a Difference a Day Makes Yesterday my post was about the last day of the Art on the Square Show in Belleville, Illinois. It was a gloomy, rainy, windy, and cold three days. This event is typically very well attended, but crowds stay away when the weather is not pleasant. Today is a very sunny, clear, dry, beautiful day, perfect for an art show. To make up for the gloomy picture yesterday, I went back to the Square at about the same time to paint a much sunnier picture of the Square in Belleville, the venue  for the three-day event for 10 consecutive years. Remember this picture of the Square yesterday? Contrast that today. The sculpture below is now gone, but what a difference a beautiful day or days would have made to the artists and the crowd, not to mention the city and commerce...

Art on the Square in Belleville, Illinois It's the last day of the Art on the Square this afternoon capping the show's 10th year anniversary. It's the culmination of a much anticipated event that brings talented local and out-of-state artists, and commerce, for three days to the city of Belleville, Illinois. This juried exhibit and sale of fine art was ranked first in three of the last four years among other major art fairs based on sales figures. Hundreds of thousands have attended this event since its opening, and from 850 - 1,000 exhibitors apply, but only 100 participants are invited. Last Friday's attendance was very good, but the rains yesterday and cooler temperatures kept the crowds away. Today was no different unfortunately, with more rain, wind, and a temperature in the 50s. A...

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows - Springtime Senior Celebration The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows is a Roman Catholic shrine devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary located on 80 beautifully landscaped acres in Belleville, Illinois, east of the Mississippi River.  The outdoor Shrine was named from the legend that snow fell on the Basilica of Saint Mary in Rome in the summertime. It's considered one of the largest outdoor shrines in North America, and has become a known beautiful place to visit just across the Mississippi from Saint Louis, Missouri.  The Shrine is run by Oblates to Saint Mary, laymen and laywomen who aren't priests and nuns, but devote their labor and time to making spiritual and family programs available to the local community, the Midwest, and  the N...

John 6:63 (New Century Version) 63 It is the Spirit that gives life. The flesh doesn't give life. The words I told you are spirit, and they give life. John 1:1-5 1 In the beginning there was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.3 All things were made by him, and nothing was made without him.4 In him there was life, and that life was the light of all people. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it. God's Word is alive and the Bible is unlike any other book you will ever read. The Bible is full of life giving words, words of wisdom, understanding, and instruction.  This is because Jesus himself came as God in the flesh, lived amoung us, gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, and He rose a...

Psalms 55:14 What good fellowship we once enjoyed as we walked together to the house of God. I love to worship God, and there are many different ways for us to worship our loving and holy Heavenly Father. Generally speaking with go to church to worship God. There we find loving brothers and sisters in Christ who are encouraging and urging us to serve along side of each other to the glory of God. We also worship God of course with our "worship time" within our Church Fellowship, lifting our voices in song to our creator and savior Jesus Christ, in sweet fellowship with one another and certainly towards our maker. But suppose God took you out of that precious fellowship. What if you became so ill you had to be hospitalized with no visitors for days on end? What if you were transferred to S...

Are you thinking about selling your house? Did you notice that I said house and not your home! House for Sale Why did I say "house" and not your "home"? It is because I feel that you need to step back as a home seller and not be personally attached to the home. Too many sellers are emotionally attached to the home and to the outcome of the sale. You need to think of your house as a marketable commodity and see your house through your buyers eyes. You want potential home buyers to see it as their potential home, not as your home.  You need to disconnect your emotions from the sale of the house, if you do not consciously make this decision, you may inadvertently create a situations where it takes longer to sell your property. One of the first steps is to get your home "market ready" and t...

1 Thessalonians 5:22-23 22 reject every kind of evil.  23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  God expects us to be holy. But when most people talk about holiness, they get a little nervous. They're interested in heaven and the hereafter but not holiness in the here and now. They're interested in health, happiness, even helpfulness, but not holiness. Can you say, "More than anything in this world, I long to be holy"? If you can't, then spend some time today asking God to turn your heart to His and give you the desire to live a holy life.
