Summer time is always filled with the expectations of vacations, seeing family, doing day trips with the grand kids, working in the garden, sitting on the patio watching the birds, enjoying the long evenings and this year is no different.  As I am writing this my mind is not on work but the expectation of different families arriving to help celebrate a birthday.  I am wondering what I have perhaps forgot to do and in the end it will not matter as once people arrive there will be many hands to help.  The important thing is to enjoy time together, sit around the fire, tell stories and remember family members that are not with us anymore. So on the prairie in Post Falls Idaho our family will sitting around the fire, cooking on the grill, remembering past family gatherings, and sharing with...

It is beginning to look like summer just might make its way to the Pacific Northwest.  On the weather map this morning there were 10 days of orange signifying glorious sunshine.  My hopes are that the garden may actually take off and start growing. The weeds have certainly been busy growing. The Fourth of July is next week and I would like to remind everyone that between the fires out west and the flooding in the SE, we have many people that have been asked to leave their homes and they are in need of prayer.  My hope is that we can all find some good for celebration this week.  I wish for safe travels for all that will be on highways in the next few days.  From here in Post Falls, Idaho have a Happy and safe Fourth! President Ron Nilson says that the new facility  will cut the time on some jobs from 2 days down to 3 hours, this is really big! They are still looking for skilled workers, machine painters, fabricators, welders and assembly line people.  For more information you can go to  www.gfmft.com This is one example of the many businesses here in PostFalls that is moving forward in this economy.  Ground Force Manufacturing exports about 80% of their products. Birthday Celebration on the Hiawatha Trail! I want to share a birthday celebration that our family is having this coming weekend.  My husband's birthday is Christmas Day so I always feel that he does not get the attention on his birthday that as a family we would like to give him.  So this Sunday as a group of friends and family, we are going to “Ride the Hiawatha.”  The bike trail is 15 miles long, starts in Montana and ends in Idaho. There are 10 tunnels and 7 trestleson the route with the longest tunnel being one and three quarters miles long.We are looking forward to the beautiful scenery and wildlife. We will pack our lunches and from the sounds of it should have no problem finding a good place to stop for lunch. You know the best part is that this bike trail is only about one hour ...

“Circle of Excellence,” a prestigious honor awarded to only 6% of Realtors in the Coeur d’Alene Association of Realtors this past year.  Members are awarded this honor based on a combination of education, community service, and production criteria.  This recognition sets the Realtor recipients apart from their peers by showcasing their commitment to not only their profession, but also to their community, and to the Realtor organization, be it at local, state, or national level. Realtors awarded this honor are being recognized today at the quarterly meeting of the Coeur d’Alene Association of Realtors. I am pleased to be among those receiving this honor today.  It is always my pleasure to be able to give back to the community that supports me. Patsy Barten provides a level of Real Estate...

Need information on Home Improvements? A plus value or a negative value? Some remodeling projects will add value to a home, while some can be seen as a negative by future buyers.  For example the seller may finish a basement but do it in a lower standard then the rest of the home; this could be seen as a negative to some buyers. Should you spend your improvement dollars inside or outside?  Well that depends, if the outside has been neglected,a buyer might decide to not even go in and look at the home, and the home could be spectacular on the inside.  So good advice to sellers for getting the biggest bang for their remodeling buck, would be to start on the outside and work their way in through the front door. Having a vanilla home so the buyers can choose their own colors sometimes will ...

Please take the time to hug, say you love them, send a card, or take them to breakfast.  Of course I am talking about our fathers.  Sunday is Fathers Day and I know that we all have very busy lives, but a dad is so very important in the family structure.  My dad is no longer with us, but I think all of the many things that he taught me even through he never made it to high school.  My dad never quit reading and learning.  You could ask him about any plant and he would know how to grow, graft, preserve, or eat it.  We always had an interesting garden.   We lived a bit out in the country growing up and equipment was always breaking down.  I watched my dad time and again look at the broken piece, tinker around a little, and then some how he would make something that would work.  This has m...

Today, June 14th is Flag Day!  As you drive through your neighborhood please take time to notice all of the flags that are out and by doing so you will also be honoring the many service men and women that have served our country.   It is believed that June 14, 1777 is the official date the nation adopted the flag.  A beloved and world-renowned symbol with nicknames that includes “Stars & Stripes,” “Old Glory,” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”   Credited with sewing the nations’ first flag, Betsy Ross was an apprentice for an upholsterer. The US Flag has been modified 26 times since its adoption in 1777.  Today’s 50 star flag was created in 1960 and has been in use the longest. This morning as I drove through my community of Post Falls, Idaho, I was pleased to see a lot of flags.   Patsy ...

One of the first things as Realtors that we tell perspective Sellers to do is freshen-up the home by doing some painting, RIGHT!  And that is a very good thing to do.Now as a Realtor we must educate the Sellers that paint is not to be done as a cover-up.  Every home has had some kind of issue over the life time of the home.  Yes please repair any water damage, dry rot, carpenter ants, cracks in foundation, loose shingles, peeling paint or anything else, but key here is to disclose and state that repairs were done.  If an insurance claim was submitted, say for a water leak in the basement, be sure to to disclose this information, as well, as it will probably effect the new Buyers insurance rate. If the Seller does not disclose information and does a cover-up this can set the Sellers up f...

Beck Road Interchange in Post Falls is finally underway.  Dirt is being moved and they still expect to have this new interchange done by Thanksgiving.  This will be a huge boost to the businesses around Cabela’s.     The contractor has scraped about 20 acres of dirt in preparation for contouring the North side of the interchange to be compatible with I-90.  The work on the south side of the freeway will start as soon as utility plans have been agreed upon by all parties.     I am so excited to finally see this work start, and I am sure the investors of “The Pointe at Post Falls” are even more excited as they continue in their talks with perspective commercial tenants. This is good for the economic growth of Post Falls.   Patsy Barten provides a level of Real Estate Service that “You are...

Seven reasons to buy a home now!  Are you tired of playing the rental game?  Let your money work for you to increase your sweat equity instead of some one else’s.  Some of the advantages of home ownership are tangible:  tax benefits and investment potential come to mind. Low interest rates and a good inventory in North Idaho are two more reasons for buying a home now.  And then there is this thing called “Pride of Ownership”.  When you own your own home it becomes your own personal sanctuary , an oasis where you can let go to relax after a day of hard work and be with your family.   When you own a home you have a lot more flexibility with how it looks.  You don’t have to ask a landlord for permission to paint or take out a piece of lawn to put in a garden. Owning your own home provides ...

New eatery in Post Falls, Idaho!  The other night I had the opportunity to have dinner at a new restaurant called Fu-Ki,  a Japanese steakhouse that features Teppanaki style cooking.  Teppanaki literally means grilling on a hot iron and they do just that.  You are seated around the cooking area.   This is where the fun starts as you have excellent viewing of the chef preparing your dinner and watching the skilled maneuvers of the chef.  The food was all very fresh and you get to see everything before it is cooked, all the different kinds of meat had good color and looked to be of very good quality.   The chef will interact with the diners if they are willing, as we watched one of the diners was able to neatly catch a piece of shrimp that the chef sent his way with a flip of the knife.  ...

Under Ground Force has almost completed their new facility on Seltice Way in Post Falls, Idaho.  They expect to have the new building finished by mid June and then they will start moving all the tools and machinery into the building, so production can start.  A Grand Opening is being planned after every thing is in place and operational.  So watch for that date, as I will publish the date in this blog as soon as I know.   It is hard to believe in this economy that they have not been able to fill all of the jobs that they have available but they still need welders, fabricators, assembly workers, and painters.  The wage for skilled and trained workers starts at $30,000.  For more information on all jobs available you can go to www.gfmfg.com or call 208 664-9291.   Patsy Barten provides a...

Today I attended the City of Post Falls “Strategic Plan Forum" hosted at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls.  This was a another step in the City’s strategic planning and outreach process, in which they were soliciting input from the Community as a follow-up to a prior “Community Assessment Survey”. At this meeting, the preliminary survey responses were presented.  The participating members from the community were divided into groups that had similar professional backgrounds/interests and were asked to think about, discuss, and identify strategies aimed at achieving the overarching strategic goals in the areas of: (1) Economic Development, (2) the Focus on Businesses (current & future) and (3) achieving a Well Planned and Livable Community.  Each of the groups was asked for input on the...
