Wordless Wednesday and Dreaming of Kaua'i There was no particular reason to be thinking of this other than looking forward to a vacation - our weather is pretty decent. But I sure would be dreaming of a warm sunny place if I was back East. Hope the storm is not as bad as they are predicting! Be safe everyone. Or escape to somewhere warm. This is a view of the Napali Coast from the Kalalau Lookout point beyond Waimea Canyon on the western shore of Kaua'i. Spectacular!

A Visit to Wiamea Canyon on Kaua’i, Hawai’i   One of the many highlights of our trip to Kaua’i was a visit to the Wiamea Canyon, nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.   And rightly so.     Wiamea Canyon is about 3500 feet deep, so not quite as impressive as the Grand Canyon, nor is it as wide or long. But Wiamea Canyon views are absolutely spectacular with amazing colors and distant waterfalls, especially in the sunlight. And depending on where you are you can see the ocean about 10 miles away as well. The drive up the mountains is pretty nice, but actually better on the way down where you can see the valleys, the ocean and other islands.   Wiamea Canyon is a must-do. But the photos tell the story better than I can.

When I was 11 years old I flew on a prop airplane to Kauai with my cousin to visit with my favorite Aunt Sally. She taught me how to crochet, sew, play the ukulele and clean house. On this first trip over there my cousin and I vowed we would find all sorts of mischief to get into. We went crabbing with my Uncle Doug and we found a stray cat. We 'snuck' him in the back of the car and managed to muffle the cat's cries....for help wondering where we were taking her. We hid the cat under a wash basin in the back yard and ran in to have lunch. My Auntie Sally yelped and pointed outside. The wash bin was mysteriously gliding across the grass! We borrowed  took the neighbors boat without asking. As the boating gals we were I told my cousin to get in and I'd push the boat out and jump in.  Yea...

Aloha, A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of hiking Cliffs Trail in Kokee. This is a short, easy trail leading to an overlook of Waimea Canyon. If you don't have 4-wheel drive, you can start at the Halemanu trailhead right off Koke'e Road, walk down the dirt Halemanu Road, and end at the Cliff Trail overlook, for a pleasant two hour round-trip stroll. Halemanu Road is pretty rutted and narrow so we chose to park at the top and walk down. Besides extending this relatively short hike, it also gave us the opportunity to admire and photograph several different flowers that grow along the road. Here is one of the many beautiful flowers taken against the backdrop of the sky: And another: And one more: The road in is all downhill to the actual trailhead. If you follow the trail a short d...
