Aloha Friday from the far end of Baldwin Beach, Paia Maui See the hint of a rainbow over the ocean, out towards Haiku? That's why we drove into Paia for lunch, and to get a little sunshine the other day. This end of Baldwin Beach is closer to Spreckelsville, and it's great for little kids to swim inside the protected area. It's not so easy to find the first time, but worth it. There were kitesurfers off to the left catching the light breeze. At this time of year, we could all enjoy a day at the beach on Maui, with some soft sand between the toes, and the smell of salt in the air.  No wonder Paia is a beach town where everybody wants to own a home. Winter season is upon us, with the first Hugh surf arriving.  Watching the evening news in Hawaii, they were reporting 20 ft surf tomorrow.  Waves have have been building, hopefully I can get a surf session in before it gets to big in the morning.  I live on the northshore of Maui, places like Hookipa Beach Park will hold surf up to 10 ft waves.  We will be looking for the first waves at Jaws with surf looking like it will be over 30 ft. When the waves are big, you have to watch your step, it can be dangerous.  Last season I shot some video at Jaws, I hope you enjoy it. Poor Alice in Hulaland is getting the squeeze. Paia Maui update. If you've been to Paia Maui you probably noticed the cute store on Baldwin Avenue, called Alice in Hulaland. It's been a fixture in this beach town for many years, and one of the best boutiques for some really unique clothes and accessories. Lots of celebrities like to come here to shop. Well move over Alice because there's a new building preparing to put the squeeze on you! I don't know what it's going to be, but it will be big, taking up most of the vacant lot next door.  I hope they take that classic sign down before too long because nobody will be able to see it. The new season of Hawaii Life has started - look for me! Last Sunday marked the beginning of the new season of the Hawaii Life TV show, named for our company Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers. Rainbow Hostel in Paia Maui HI - low budget accommodations for sale This Paia Maui property was featured today on the north shore Realtor Caravan.  It was something new to me, and very interesting to say the least.  I must have driven by a hundred times and not realized what was there. The Rainbow Surf Hostel at 221 Baldwin Ave. has some good and bad ratings on TripAdvisor.com and the people staying there seemed to like it well enough.  There's a lot of beds, some bunk-beds, some private rooms, and a kitchen for everyone to use.  The courtyard has fruit trees and an internet connection.  Parking is kind of tight, but there's plenty of room for back-packers.  Paia really needs something like this, and I can see how it could do well.   It's for sale asking $995,000. in the Maui MLS, for a... 07/10/2014

Paia Maui HI 96779 - so many new things to report! Every time I drive through Paia lately I see something new and I want to blog about it.  So many things, and not enough time.  Here's some snapshots of the new things happening in Paia Maui lately: Paia Plaza on Baldwin Ave. gets a new paint  job. Not sure if it's really colorful enough for this lively beach town. Kuau Store reopens in Kuau.  Rock & Brews restaurant opens in Paia. Remember that vacant store next to Ono Gelato?  Well it finally got rented out and it's now San Lorenzo, a clothing boutique with a rustic decor. Wings has moved to the old Quinsaat Building and it's sporting a new baby blue color! The Hive is a new shop on Baldwin Avenue.  I think it's like a spa.
