    Paia Maui Friday evening update So I was working in Paia at our office, Jim Sanders Realty, and it was a pretty good Friday afternoon...sunny and warm outside, nice and cool inside the office.  I was getting caught up on a lot of things.  During the afternoon I notice some tables going up on the sidewalk outside in front of the Morning Glories Internet Cafe.  I thought it was another weekend blowout sale at the Simmer Style surf shop next door to the cafe.  At the end of the day, I found out that the local artists are starting a new tradition in Paia - Last Fridays - to make things more fun for a weekend evening in town.  There were some hippies young people selling their hand made trinkets made with local seeds!  There were some nice bracelets, earrings and necklaces for sale.  The... 05/30/2008

As of today, my town of Paia on the North Shore of Maui is the first to go Plastic Bag Free in Hawaii. As a popular water sports town, many local residents have seen first hand the adverse effects of plastic bags on sea life. All too often you see sea birds, turtles, fish or reef entangled in discarded plastic bags. A local group called No Mo Plastic Bag has been working with local merchants over the last six months to raise funds for biodegradable bags and reusable tote bags. As of today, the biodegradable bags are available throughout the town. A benefit will be held tomorrow evening to help defray any extra cost associated with the new bags. You can help plant a tree on Maui... A Maui couple has started a business that promotes a greener and healthier Maui environment. They created "Plant A Wish" to encourage visitors and residents to take a more active role in planting trees and helping to re-establish native forest species here on the island. Participants can buy a native tree and sponsor it to be planted, along with wishes that are buried in the soil at the time of planting. On Earth day, April 20th, over 100 wishes were written on biodegradable paper to be planted with a young coconut tree that is being installed today in Paia. The tree planting ceremony today takes place at Baldwin Beach Park, at 2:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, and include their own wishes for a brighter future. DINING OUT ON MAUI - WHAT'S GOOD IN PAIA? I like to take pictures of food.... how does this look?  It was the grilled mahimahi on a huge Caesar salad, at the Paia Fish Market Restaurant.  It's only $13.99 ... how can you beat that?  Social Networking at Street Level - Paia Maui HISometimes it's good to get out and walk about your town.  Yesterday I was in our Paia Maui office and decided to walk up to the Post Office to check the mail, even though it was hot and sunny and I could have cruised up in air conditioned comfort (but how lazy is that?).I'm glad I did.  I ran into a friend who is a property manager and learned of a cute home coming up for rent in the North Shore Village subdivision - at a good price too.  I'll keep that in mind for any clients who are looking for a nice 3 bedroom home to rent in Paia, for $1,900/month.I noticed a new coffee shop has opened, actually HAZ BEANZ relocated from a few doors down.  They have a much bigger space now, and will soon be offering free wi-fi internet access.  This is... 04/18/2008

CAN YOU TASTE IT? And now for something completely different.  After all the serious posts I've made lately, I need a breath of fresh air... so here it is. If you were on Maui you could be eating this delicious meal at Mama's Fish House Restaurant in Kuau.  Their website is a pleasure to peruse as you listen to Hawaiian music.  MAUI NORTH SHORE SURF Today they are calling for waves to reach 30 feet on the north shore of Maui.  Here are some pictures of the waves at midday, Feb 14, 2008.  They get a lot bigger than this at times.  This is the north shore of Maui - between Paia town and Ho'okipa Beach Park.  Further out to the east will bring you to the famous surf break called JAWS.  Today is not "epic" enough for Jaws, but some tow in surfers will go  went there anyway, and had tons of fun.  Maui is a playground for the hard core surfers, windsurfers, and kiteboarders.  Year round great conditions attract people from all around the world to come here and train.  World class contests are held at Ho'okipa and Kanaha beaches a number of times throughout the year.Here's a view of the coastline looking back toward... 02/14/2008

  Maui Street Signs - Sticker Graffiti Sometimes I like to take pictures of goofy things, like these various street signs around Paia and Haiku on Maui.  People seem to have a lot of time on their hands, and enjoy putting stickers on things.  I have to admit it makes for a laugh once in a while. Who are these people?  Where do they get those stickers? I recognize some of them coming from the surfing industry.... we have a lot of surf punks in Paia.           All eyes seem to be on this one sign. Stop and smell the roses indeed!
