Wonderful night at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center - Na Hoku Hou Award Winners Concert Over the weekend we were lucky to attend the very first annual Na Hoku Hou Award Winners concert at our fantastic Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului Maui.  This was our first time to see the newly unveiled Yokouchi Pavillion which is where the entertainment was playing.  This versatile venue can be outward facing for a large event, or inward facing for a more intimate seating such as last Saturday night.  We were really quite surprised by the small crowd of only about 250 people.  Our table at the front was a great vantage point to enjoy the local musicians: Kainani Kahaunaele; Hot Club of Hulaville; Mark Yamanaka; and Kalapana. Free Kayak Lessons on Maui this Friday May 27, 2011 The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation is offering free kayak lessons to anyone who wants to learn.  The free lessons will be between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, at Kanaha Beach Park on the north shore, by the airport (see map below).  Kanaha Park is famous as the best beach for beginner and advanced windsurfers, and is nicely upgraded with restrooms, outdoor showers, and picnic areas.  There's plenty of paved parking and shady lawns for enjoying a picnic or playing with the kids.  Maui waters are warm, but it might be a good idea to wear a light shirt and sunscreen to protect your skin. Report from the ML&P auction on Maui with videoIt was a week ago we went to the Maui Land and Pineapple Co. preview for their big auction.  We spent 5 hours at the auction the next day and all we got was this flagpole!It was a fun event and well attended too, with hundreds of people on site and hundreds more online.  The bidding was pretty fast and furious, especially when Surfer Joe the Auctioneer took the podium (which was also for sale by the way).Here's a little sample of the action at the ML&P auction on Maui.  I won't bore you with all the details, but let's just say there weren't a lot of super deals while we were there.  Maybe as the day wore on the prices came down.  I think Maui should have more of these events just for the fun of it! Thanks for reading My Maui Blog!  Search t... 05/24/2011

Maui Land and Pineapple Co is having an auction/webcast auction on Maui Today my husband took me to the preview of the ML&P (Maui Land and PIneapple) auction at their old pineapple cannery in Kahului Maui.  They are selling off a lot of farm and road equipment, which rings his bell.  We saw a lot of mowers, golf carts, tractors, trucks, tools and hardware, tables and chairs, kitchen equipment, electrical and plumbing supplies, office items, and so much more! The auction is being held on May 18 2011 at 10:00 am Hawaii Time.  Today was the day to preview and inspect items in lots numbered from 1-498.  A lot of the big stuff was still on site in various locations on Maui, such as pineapple harvesters in Kaanapali. This is how we wash our cars on MauiIf you're cruising by Kmart when you see the car wash signs up, then by all means... Dog the Bounty Hunter captures a perp on MauiWow I can't believe that Dog the Bounty Hunter captured a supect at Sears in Kahului Maui the other day, and it was captured on video.  They were filming for the TV show so you can expect to see it in an upcoming episode.  Security guards weren't pleased to have an outside source doing any filming (it wasn't me!).  I guess the suspect was man-handled by the Dog and police officers were on hand to make the arrest outside the store.Here's the action for you:Sears is at the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center in the heart of our biggest city, Kahului.  This is also the town where you will land when you fly to Maui.  Who knew there was so much excitement going on!?Related posts: video of Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center, Kahului Maui HI arriving at OG... 03/29/2011

Elton John is coming to Maui for 2 shows! It's creating a lot of buzz over here.  This doesn't happen every day on a little island.  Elton John is going to play on Maui at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.  For 2 shows!
