Where once the merchants plied their wares,And planters news and gossip shared, Now forlorn empty remnants standOf towns that years ago were grand! (R Weisser 2013) Unless one took time to read the historic marker, it would be unlikely that a passerby would even know that the town of Goggans once thrived here. With the railroad came prosperity and a place where local farmers could send their crops to distant markets. A general store and post office offered a place to buy provisions or the latest gadgets and communicate both with other locals and the rest of the world. Now most of the town's stories are relegated to the epitaphs on the tombstones in the churchyard.
