Where is Your Wire Transfer? Wire transfers are the preferred method to send money to a closing attorney.  Very rarely does anyone bring a cashiers check to a closing.  This week the West Mero Board of Realtors sent out an email alerting members about the latest real estate scam in the area.  It seems that hackers are hacking into email accounts, and monitoring emails for key words such as closing, wire transfer, etc.   After finding these words, the hackers take over and contact buyers who are preparing for a closing that will include a wire transfer.  A typical hacked email recived by the buyer will read "The wiring instuctions sent previously have been changed.  Please have your funds wired using the new instructions in this email." Last week I had the opportunity to participate in Georgia Association of REALTORS first ever Legislative Conference at the state capitol in Atlanta. It was a very well-organized event and we as REALTORS wanted our legislators to now how important home ownership is to our neighborhood, our state and our nation.  We heard some very important people in government speak to us including the governor. Our company built a parade float for the Peoples Parade for the 4th of July in our town of Carrollton, Georgia.  We went with the theme of "Backyard Bar-B-Q. We had a playhouse on the back of a 24’ trailer. We had agents to build a picket fence, agents who painted. We then put down green indoor/outdoor carpet for the grass, a kiddie pool with agents kids and a grill with a friend cooking real burgers.  We passed out small American flags with our company name on the stick, patriotic wrapped bubble gum, branded jar openers and small branded Frisbees. We won 1st place in the small business category!  I am so proud of our team.   Now, the real work begins. The parade is a huge advertising splash. My Temple, GA short sale has a closing date!  Yes, that's right.  I have an approval and a closing date of on or before June 15. We started the short sale journey in November of 2010.  We had one buyer walk away, but the current buyer loves the house, knows he is getting a great home at a great price, and is committed 100% to getting to closing. Although theshort sala journey has been long, and emotionally painful, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can't believe it - I got a lead from Walt Disney recently on my website. He wanted to know the value of his home here in Carroll County.  Unfortunately I couldn't help him, because he didn't give his street address on the input form. I know that people want anomonity, but good grief - could they not be more creative than that? I remember when my children were small and they had learned to say "grace" - the prayer of thanks that we always have before diving into a meal. Thanksgiving meals are usually a feast with all the trimmings. It didn't seem to matter which one was called upon to word the prayer of thanks, they would always name every specific food that was on the table including the bread and drinks and they would also be thankful for all the people on earth as well as all the animals too!  I loved it. I'm watching Sunday Night Football with Jeremy and notice pink shoes, pink chin straps, pink gloves, pink cap rims, pink wrist bands, and probably others that I haven't seen.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Pink it up! I love playing pool with my 12 year old. He and I play a good bit and he's getting pretty good. We played this earlier this morning and he had "run the table" and I had 6 balls on the table plus the 8 ball. I went on a little run of my own and ended up winning the game. I know some may think that I should "let him win", but he likes to play hard.  It dawned on me that, I often can get off to a fast start, but it's important to finish strong. In golf they say, "It's not how  you drive; it's how you arrive!"  I want to start transactions in a strong way and then finish them strong. I want my marketing plan to start strong and stay strong and end in a closed sale. It seems that this is a good principle in so many areas of life.
