Nope, there won't be a lot of dogs but there will be a lot of chili. You can support 10 different charities by attending this years Athens Area Charity Chili Cook-Off at Pittard Park in Winterville, GA. Tasting starts at 12:00 Noon and goes until 3:00 PM. At 3:30 awards will be presented for the best chilis. Some of the charities supported by this event will be: The Athens Area Humane Society PAWS Athens Canine Rescue and 7 others. Tickets are $10 and lets you tase all of the chilis. Preceding the cook off the Athens Canine Rescue group will be holding an "Adoption Day". On a recent Saturday I was driving from East Athens down Cherokee Road and almost did a u turn in the road when for the first time, I spotted "Winterville, Georgia's First Coffee Shop & Cafe" - the Cafe Marigold!      I was even more delighted when (after safely navigating a turnaround) I discovered owners Bubba & Susan Cowart running this beauty!     Bubba & Susan are long-term area residents and are providing a much needed break from reality in their adorable new cafe, opened in January 2008.            The coffee is wonderful and Susan's homemade deserts are fabulous - strawberry cake HIGHLY recommended (sorry, I ate it before thinking about photographing it)!
