Do you remember what it was like during the summer when you were a kid?  If you were like me, you gauged how good a time it was by how dirty you got.  Show your kids what a good time really is by bringing them to Birdsong Nature Center in Thomasville so they can get wet and muddy this weekend. Before you set your clocks ahead one hour this Sunday, spring forward at a Birdsong fundraiser in Thomasville.  This is a unique opportunity for you to visit a brand new White Ibris rookery at a local working farm and help raise money for the Birdsong Nature Center. A rookery is a colony of breeding birds.  In this case, that would be the White Ibris, a white, medium-sized bird with a long, orange bill and legs.  Their wings look like they've been dipped in black ink but can only be seen when these birds take flight.  Betty and Robert Jinright have been friends of Birdsong Nature Center's Betty Komarek for many, many years.  They started up a rookery after they found more than 1,000 of the White Ibris birds roosting and nesting in the flooded woods on their Boston, GA farm last year. An...

Thomasville residents know what a caring, kind community we have.  That's why we live here.  One of the organizations that make it so great is Hands On Thomas County.  Hands On Thomas County is comprised entirely of volunteers who give their time and energy to helping out the local community by serving breakfast to seniors, cleaning up trash or serving hot meals on cold days to those less fortunate.  Since they are strictly non-profit, they need your help for funding their efforts.  This year, they are holding a Thomasville Mardi Gras and would love for you to attend. This Saturday, January 26th at 7pm, Hands On Thomas County will be throwing a party, Nawlins-style at Pebble Hill.  There will be dinner, drinks, a goof booth, a raffle, a silent auction and lots of Zydeco music to dance t...

Happy cows create a happy product.  At least, that's what Sweet Grass Dairy's founders Al and Desiree Wehner believed when they opened up their Thomasville dairy in 2000.  They are opening up the doors of their sustainable farm to teach you how to make your own wheel of cheese using their professional tools and ingredients with their Thomasville Cheesemaking 101 class on Saturday, January 19, 2012. Beginning at 10am, all participants will make a wheel of cheese of their very own, using methods originated by founder Desiree Wehner herself.  The teacher of this class will be the current owner of the dairy, Jeremy Little.  The wheel will be left at the Thomasville dairy to mature but will be mailed to your doorstep once it is ready to be consumed.  The cheesemaking class will end with a ch...
