Residents of the Snellville will be voting tomorrow whether to allow Sunday liquor sales within the city limits. Dating back to 2004, the city and many of its leaders have been split on whether to allow this. Opponents of the the measure say alcohol shouldn't be sold on Sunday due to religious considerations. Proponents of the measure say that the measure will help increase business and rejuvenate the sluggish business growth that Snellville has experienced in recent years. They also site that many businesses have had to close due to the ban since consumers will take their business outside of the city limits. Tomorrow will sure be an interesting day in Snellville. Whatever your position is, make sure you go to the polls and make your voice heard. Click here to view a 5 minute news clip ...

If you have driven up Wistera drive lately, you will see the construction of Snellville's new police precinct. Set to open by February, it will provide much needed room for the police department as well as a much more central location. The current headquarters is in a residential area versus the new one being in the heart of downtown Snellville, making it easier for officers to reach the different parts of the city limits. The building, set to cost around 7 million dollars is being paid for out of SPLOST money. Check out the location below.   Map taken from Google Maps

I recently had to make an unplanned purchase. After shopping around, HH Gregg seemed to offer a good price.  While at HH Gregg, I was served by Terrance. Terrance patiently explained to me anything that I needed to know. He was knowledgeable in all aspects of the purchase as well as any technical questions regarding the item I purchased. It is nice to know that good service still exists. I highly recommend Terrance at the HH Gregg Snellville store to meet all of your shopping needs. His cell number is (I told you he goes above and beyond) 678-362-6419. Stop in or call him and make an appointment.

Want to buy a home but thinking about the cost and not really sure what might be involved that depends on what type of program you are using for your purchase. Did you know with Fannie Mae's HomePath there is no appraisal required, you only have to have 3% for down payment, no mortgage insurance is required and the seller can help with up to 6% closing cost. One of the things I love about Snellville, specifically the part that borders with Lawrenceville, is the convenience of mall shopping without the mall hassle at the Avenue. When I moved to this area, we had very few places to dine that were not a ten or fifteen minute drive. Once plans for the Avenue were announced, a plethora of dining establishments began to open both in and around the Avenue. Some of my favorites: 1. Lavendar Asian Bistro: Serving excellent Chinese and Thai food, this is a first class establishment. A great atmosphere and a friendly staff make dining a pleasure. Price range from $20 for 2 for the basic meal like cashew nut chicken to upwards of $50 for the chef specialties.  Of particular charm is the Sweet and Sour Shrimp. They are huge with an amazing glaze. They a...

Plans for the Ronald Reagan Extension are moving forward. At a recent meeting on January 11, plans were discussed including feasibility maps and also a possible no build if all of the analysis proved there to be a fatal flaw. Among the things considered were the congestion already known to be in the area.  Also, some of the unknowns are the funding for the project. There is talk that a toll may be considered, but again all of this is very preliminary as the planning stages are not close to completion. Map of the Proposal Study Area Feasability Corridors Potential Reduced Corridors   One of the goals is to possibly integrate the extension with the highway 85 HOV and HOT Lanes project. The project would reduce congestion, mobility times and air quality. Time line Full Meeting Report

It is frigidly cold by Georgia standards here in Snellville....we have snow, ice, wind and sub-freezing tempertures through Sunday.  The majority of schools in North Georgia were closed today. In Snellville, we received maybe a 1/2 inch of snow. The roads were kind of covered as were driveways and rooftops.  Check out the picture.  Kids have been sledding down the hills all over the Atlanta area. Many folks have chosen to go to parks to partake in this. Those of you who live in places that get plenty of snow are probably chuckling since our whole city has pretty much shut down. Stay warm.

It is snowing in Atlanta.  High temperatures are expected to only reach 32 degrees tomorrow.  The system, which wasn't expected to deliver much snow to Atlanta, has stalled over the downtown area for around the last 3 hours. Accumulation is being reported on roads, especially secondary streets. Check out the late afternoon picture of a lake in the Kensington Subdivision in Snellville that is half-frozen!

Snellville will now allow businesses within the city limit to serve alochol on Sunday. In a historic vote, the council earlier this month voted in favor of allowing local establishments serve alcohol. This will now allow Snellville to attract the types of establishments, namely fine dining, that has been previously unable to operate within the city limits due to the restriction.   Snellville is now open for business for those establishments that previously stayed away from the city.  This should be a boon to our local economy.  Attracting the types of establishments that will draw folks from all over the metro area to visit Snellville should pump some serious money into the economy.

As promised, here is some more information on the proposed extension of Ronald Reagan Parkway. The goal is to relieve the congestion in the Pleasant Hill/Steve Reynolds area for those cars trying to access 85. The extension would be a 3 mile one from Pleasant Hill to 85. No routes have been determined. The pre-development phase began this past September and could last as long as 12 months. The main purpose of this time is to see if the project is feasible. Skanska is the company in charge of the project.  They are highly respected in the international community and are in the Forbes 2000. During this initial phase, 100 people are working on the feasibility study. They have a goal of hiring as many local workers as possible and are already using a myriad of local businesses. Do you want ...
