Brookwood High School is honoring the state champion football team and student activities over the break. The celebration is planned to take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Maroon Gym.  The football team is now ranked number 24 in the USA Today High School Rankings. Way to go Brookwood Broncos! Not only does Brookwood have the best SAT scores in Gwinnett, but they are now state football champions.  Brookwood won 52-38 over Colquitt County in a game that saw nearly 1000 yards of offense.  Both teams were very impressive.  Turn overs turned out to be key, with Brookwood getting some key interceptions at crucial times in the game. Coach Crews, on staff during their 1996 championship run, cited the community and school as some of the major reasons that the year was so successful.  He said his team has been working at this since last December. The humble coach acknowledged his teams hard work and the leadership displayed among one another.  What a remarkable turn around after last seasons 6 and 6 finish. I had resisted the temptation to even go online and look at any deals until now.  I had been shopping off and on for a laser printer for several months. I kind of procrastinated the inevitable (couldn't stand it any longer paying nearly $40 a month to replace ink in my ink jet printers).  Tonight, the procrastination ended.  I went to Newegg.com. If you have not heard of them, they are awesome and have great prices. I recently purchased the latest and greatest router from them for $29.  I had spoken to the folks at Cartridge World in Snellville and asked for a printer recommendation. The recommended the Brother HL-2140 printer. The cartridges cost about $43 to replace and you get tons of pages out of a cartridge. We ate at Gary's Bistro this evening. What a fabulous meal! I hadn't yet heard about it since it has only been opened for 2 months. They sent out a mailer and we checked it out. I am glad we did. The menu ranges in price from about $8-18 for an entree. Tonight's special was BBQ chicken and mashed potatoes for $8.95.  I didn't order it, but they have nightly specials like that. Granite counter tops and semi-open kitchen make it feel warm. The wait staff was friendly and gave oodles of attention to my kids- always a plus.  They also serve boiled peanuts prior to the meal. I had the chicken quesadilla. Talk about cheesy!  Tons of it wrapped in a spinach tortilla with tomato, onion, and spinach. It was very good and huge. Plans are continuing to move forward with the feasibility study of extending Ronald Reagan Parkway.  The advisory group recently met and discussed the progress of the study. Public/Private partnerships were discussed, including the model of the them, the level of exposure for the government, and how eventually it is all handed back to the government after their "lease" is up. Things have moved slower than expected due to our economic times. The federal and state DOT are working with Gwinnett in trying to connect it to I85. The upcoming diamond changes are Pleasant Hill and I85 are not going to effect the scope of this project. Statistics for Snellville 30039 August through October has brought a leveling of prices in zip code 30039 which is a good sign. Sales prices from April through August were steadily going down so the stabilization of prices has been a good indicator. Hopefully prices will begin to rise near future. Another good market indicator has been that days on market have been going down, only with a slight increase in July but it soon regained its downward trend. Overall Snellville zip code 30039 is doing better with prices stable and days on market that have decreased from 300 in January to currently 175 days. 10/07/2010

Foreclosures in Snellville and all over the metro area are on the rise. Georgia is ranked 7th in the United States with roughly 1 in every 246 household for August.  Nationally that number is 1 in 381.  This is a 30 percent jump over July of 2010 and a 37% jump over August on 2009.  Atlanta Home Prices are up .06 percent in year over year reporting. (August 2009-10).  They are up .01 percent since July 2010. The mixed bag of news indicates that banks may very well be asking more for their foreclosures as they are now getting accustomed to having them.  09/19/2010

In a unanimous decision, the council approved new development along 124 and Janmar roads in Snellville. Formerly the homes of a Home Depot Landscape Store and a Lincoln-Mercury Dealership, the now vacant eye sores will be redeveloped to become an Academy Sports Center and a restaurant with potential out parcels. Coming on the heels of the cities ability to now serve alcohol on Sundays, this development was passed with many zoning variances.  The city is in talks with a national chain restaurant to move into the 6 plus acre 124 location in the heart of the Snellville shopping area.  Residents will now have an even greater variety of shops and dining choices. The class of 1980 from South Gwinnett High School will be the first class reunion in the United States to be held on the Internet. This is a great way for people to get together without having to spend the expense of traveling. I am wondering how it will be organized.
