The Green Cove Springs Florida 4th of July 2010 celebration is going to be one of best around. Green Cove Springs Lions Club stepped up to sponsor the event that kicks off Saturday the 3rd. With Jacksonville being a military town there seems to be alot of excitement as the nation celebrates the fourth of July for the 234th time. The celebration starts at 10:00am on the3rd of July in Spring Park that runs along the St. Johns River in downtown Green Cove Springs. There will be live music and entertainment for the adults. For the brave souls who didn't let a little rain and chill keep them away, the Parade of Trees that heralds in Christmas on Walnut Street was a delightful event. The 40th Annual Christmas on Walnut Street in Green Cove Springs FL was rescheduled from Dec. 4-5 to Dec. 11-12 due to rainy cold weather. Guess what? The rain and chilly weather came back! Friday night wasn't too bad. It was a little misty and chilly, but with a warm jacket, the evening was invigorating. Here are the trees. They line both sides of the sidewalk down to the Springs in Green Cove Springs Park. Companies, organizations and individuals sponsor trees. It's that time again! Christmas on Walnut and the Parade of Trees are this weekend, December 11 & 12, 2009. It was rescheduled after last week's rain. The Parade of Trees starts at 7 PM Friday Evening December 11, when Green Cove Springs behind City Hall lights up to usher in the Christmas Season. Christmas on Walnut Street is Saturday, December 12. The Christmas Parade will be in the afternoon. There will be food and craft vendors in abundance, so plan to eat well and do some Christmas shopping! Walnut Street will be closed to vehicular traffic. Construction is slow driving down CR 209 from CR 220 in the Lake Asbury area of Green Cove Springs. The widening of the road and bridge over Black Creek has finally begun. Coming down CR 209 from Sandridge towards US 17, traffic is also slow due to construction there - they are digging a big hole for some reason at the intersection of CR 209 N (Russell Rd) and CR 209 at the railroad tracks heading east to US 17. Add 5 to 10 minutes to travel times in these areas. The 209/209 traffic should clear up in a few days, but the traffic across the Black Creek Bridge on CR 209 is going to be impacted for quite some time to come.
