Dunedin Florida is holding an 'Art to the Rescue' for the local doggie rescue program.  An exhibit of local doggie art will be on display at the Stirling Art Studios and Gallery, located at 730 Broadway in beautiful downtown Dunedin Florida and will continue through the end of May.  This is just one more example of what is going on in the active little community of Dunedin Florida. Be sure to come out and see the Doggie Art Exhibit at the Stirling Art Studios! The studio features 12 local artists each month. The new exhibits start on the same day as the monthly Art & Wine Walks, so be sure to participate in this fun monthly event that is always on the second Friday of the month.  Each featured artist also has a website that you can access while you are in the main gallery at Stirling Ar...

Dunedin Causeway here on Florida's Gulf coast has a Macaw parrot population that is always fun to watch. They frequent the Gulf Beaches and love to hang out on Dunedin Causeway. Macaw parrots are not native to Florida but at some time in the past, somebody let a couple free and through the years, they have multiplied into thousands of free roaming bands that love living in the palms along our beaches. Many of us enjoy photographing our Macaw parrots. If you are ever on the beaches here and see a flock of Macaw parrots flying by, you are not imagining things! They are a loud, colorful group that tolerate people zooming in with cameras to take their photos (as I often do). Just one more thing that I love about living in the Dunedin Florida area. If you are ready to relocate, give me a cal...

Oleander season is indeed back in full bloom on Dunedin's causeway, which leads out to Honeymoon Island State Park. Nothing is more beautiful at this time of year than passing row upon row of Oleander bushes in full bloom, with their vibrant reds, pinks and pale white. It is something that tourists love to photograph and with good reason. Our Oleanders are breathtakingly beautiful. Just a word of caution: Do not pick the flowers or cut the stems. All parts of the Oleander are poisonous if ingested. The stems have a sticky white liquid that is also poisonous, so wash your hands well if you get it on you. Even the fumes of burning Oleander plants are dangerous. If you come in contact with the fumes or ingest Oleander, get to a hospital and let them know what the problem is. They are beaut...

Honeymoon Island State Park, just off the Dunedin Causeway, is celebrating Earth Day all weekend - April 20-21 It is the place to be this weekend with plenty of activities going on for the entire family! While you are there, be sure to walk the nature trail. I would advise bringing a bottle of water and your camera on this trail since it can get hot out there. You will need your camera to photograph all of the osprey nesting out there as well as the bald eagle family that are island residents! Honeymoon Island State Park is always a great destination and this weekend there is so much going on there! Come on out and enjoy yourself! By the way, if you are considering relocating in the Dunedin or Palm Harbor area of Florida, give me a call today to discuss your plans and begin your search!

While we were taking our morning walk on the beach, I photographed these adorable little birds with bright orange bills. I am not sure what they are called but figured my ActiveRain community would surely know. Is this called an Black Skimmer or is it an Oyster Catcher or does it have another name? I find them really beautiful and see them all the time when we are walking along the seashore. Guess they love these warm winter temperatures too.  It has been in the 80's all week down here, who wouldn't love that?

When the sea fog burns off, there is nothing but blue skies and sunshine over Honeymoon Island State Park off the coast of Dunedin Florida. Yesterday we walked the Dunedin Causeway out to Honeymoon Island State Park and back again. The sea fog was pretty thick around 8 in the morning but before 10 am it had burnt off. The sun was shining and the sky was as blue as can be!  This is why I love living here on Florida's Suncoast, in close proximity to Honeymoon Island State Park! Honeymoon Island State Park off Dunedin Florida offers pure white sand and picture perfect blue skies. Who could possibly ask for more? This fantastic Florida State Park has done a lot of upgrading in the last few years and that includes moving and improving the shower and restroom facilities. They have also added more cafe facilities near the beach and now also offer the option of renting part of the facility out for special parties! Honeymoon Island State Park is a favorite for locals and tourists alike. We don't drive down to Clearwater Beach, we love our Honeymoon Island State Park! Today the temperatures were in the mid-70's....not bad for the second half of January!!!!

Dunedin Florida's weekly Farmer's Market really does rock! It is not only a fantastic place to get fresh veggies, the market offers vendors that offer unique desserts, fresh breads and even gluten free items! It was unusually cold today, so people actually had jackets on but the market was still busy as usual. Sweet Ida Mae's Bakery (photo above) was so pretty in pink! Their desserts were almost too nice to actually eat! But then, who can refuse strawberry shortcake? The Farmer's Market is in downtown Dunedin every Friday morning, from 9 am to 2 pm and will continue to be there until the end of April, when the temperatures start to get too hot. If you like unique items, you really need to check out the various vendors at the Dunedin Farmer's Market where you can find items that you won'...

Sweet Pea's Cafe in downtown Dunedin Florida has finally opened! This is one of those rare places that welcome families with small children. They have an entire play area, complete with a playhouse, outside for children. The menu is also child friendly, with a wonderful assortment of breakfast and lunch items that children love, such as chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and peanut butter with honey and fresh fruit for lunch. Naturally, there are great salads and sandwiches for the adult palate as well. And with seating both inside and out, this is a great destination for any weather that comes along. Be sure to check out Sweet Pea's Cafe in downtown Dunedin Florida at 343 Virginia Lane the next time you are out and about! Just one more reason why everybody loves living in Dunedin!

Honeymoon Island State Park off Dunedin Florida has a great Osprey Trail and we were out hiking it yesterday! The temperatures were in the low 80's, the sun was shining and I had my Nikon with me so I could zoom in really close! I was so glad that I had that zoom as I came across nest after nest of Osprey. They were flying a few hundred yards into the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico, collecting fish after fish and bringing their bounty home for the little ones up high in the nests. A Bald Eagle has also built a gigantic nest in the park and the rangers have closed the area around the nest off so hikers cannot get close to it. High up in the branches sat the magnificent Bald Eagle, watching us from a distance. We walked down to the water and along a different route on our way back...

Florida's Duranta erecta, also known as the Golden Dewdrop, is a beautiful plant with orange berries that are poisonous to humans.  We found this plant with the enticing berries in Hammock Park during our walks and as always, I photographed it with the intention of identifying it. If it was edible, we were going to return and collect some berries. Naturally, after finding out that they are only food for the birds, we will be sure not to sample them. Native to Mexico, Central & South Florida as well as the Caribbean Islands and Central America, these bushes are often used as hedges and their flowers attract butterflies. There are so many fruit producing plants here in the Sunshine State and one must remember to sample with caution!

Lost in the jungle and loving it was how I felt on our morning walk today. It was a little later than normal because it was just too darn cold outside to venture out! It went down to 49 degrees and there was no way my nose was going outdoors until those temperatures were up close to 60 degrees! Walking though Hammock Park, with the live oak trees bending over the trails, as if they were protecting us from the sun's rays, I felt as if I was far away from civilization and really enjoying it! Naturally, we were back at the car and heading home all too soon but I do love these walks where I can enjoy the beauty Mother Nature provides! Florida is really a wonderful place to live!
