This is the tale of the black tip shark that did not get away! It was a day for catching everything that you don't want to bring home for dinner. After catching a large ray and having me cut the line once it got close to the boat, Ronnie managed to catch this black tip shark. This guy gave a great fight and once he got close enough, I cut the line but not too close. Those teeth just did not look friendly at all! Even though Ronnie did not bring home dinner, it was a fantastic day on the boat and I did shoot some wonderful video of the Dunedin coastline for another blog post. Besides, we are still eating that snook!

This is a baby barracuda that managed to get inside Ronnie's castnet. We took photographs of the little guy before releasing him again. I touched his teeth, ever so carefully and they really are sharp. The funny thing was that after we released him, he hung around the boat for over an hour. Just swimming near the motor in the back of the boat in the shade. It was strange, kind of like he had adopted us. My comment to Ronnie was that it is still a barracuda, so be careful about getting your fingers too close.

The Ballyhoo is referred to as a bait fish and used to catch larger salt water fish. Today while out on the boat with Ronnie, we came across school after school of Ballyhoo.  Ronnie stopped the boat since there were such large schools of bait fish and pulled out the castnet to see exactly what kind of bait fish was in the water. To our surprise, we had come across schools of Ballyhoo. This is something we don't normally see in the castnet so I had to have a few photos! The Ballyhoo live in waters off of Florida and are often mistaken for Needlefish. Now you have had your fish lesson for the day!

Snook season has been closed on our coast of Florida for three years now, after the great freeze that killed thousands of the fish. Naturally, when they re-opened snook season this month it was to every fisherman's delight! Snook fishing requires not only a fishing license but also a special snook stamp, which costs extra. My fishing license expired three weeks ago and my next birthday is in October. Once I turn 65 next month, I no longer need a fishing license so I opted not to fish until my birthday comes. Seeing that snook on Ronnie's line made it really difficult but I know the laws and did not want to break the law or get a stiff fine! So I only grabbed the net and helped Ronnie land this beautiful fish. It measured a fraction of an inch under the maximum allowed length of 33". The...

Your own private island is indeed what Kellogg Island off Dunedin Florida seems to be when you land there. This beautiful island just across the channel from the old Kellogg Estate was our destination yesterday.  We anchored the boat just off shore and I waded in with Ronnie. He brought his cast net and caught plenty of bait in no time at all. He went back on the boat and fished off the back of the boat while I walked around the entire island - it was low tide, so this was possible. During high tide you would have to go through the brush to circle the island and since there are probably snakes on the island, I am not going anywhere but the sandy beach! While Ronnie fished I returned from my walk and then decided to lie in the sun and listen to an audio book by Dan Brown: Inferno. The bo...

Snook season opened a few days ago and we took the day to go fishing. I decided I needed another day off (I am attempting to take one day each week and go out in the boat). Before I crash early because I am so dead tired after a day on the water, I had to answer emails, return phone calls and then get over to my ActiveRain family to post this photo of what we had for dinner. There will be more photos tomorrow but for tonight, here is what we had for dinner..............fresh Snook!!!!!

It was a shark kind of day yesterday - sharks were everywhere and they were indeed hungry! Ronnie did the fishing and I took the photos, thinking of posting them in blog posts as I clicked away! First we went to Kellogg Island where Ronnie caught bait fish in his cast net. After that, he fished off the back of the boat while I sat in the shallows and listened to a book on my iPhone. Suddenly he yelled that he had something on the line and I should get out of the water until we knew what it was. We have seen too many sharks around Kellogg Island to take a chance. There is a deep channel that runs between the island and the old Kellogg Estate. Ronnie attempted to get the shark onto the sand but it refused to comply! It was a little Bull Shark, about 4 feet long. After a good fight and man...

We have gone fishin' today and hopefully there will be plenty of photos to follow. High today should be around 91 degrees with plenty of sunshine. Ronnie went out with a buddy a couple of days ago and brought home red fish, trout and flounder. We had trout and flounder in beer batter yesterday and are saving the red fish for Sunday.  He said there were spinner dolphin putting on a show for over a half hour but he did not have a camera since both his and mine 'died' in the same week. I will use my iPhone camera and video if I see any today! Hopefully, plenty of fish photos to come!!!! Stay tuned!

Dunedin Florida's beautiful Edgewater Drive is a wonderful way to be introduced to the quaint town of Dunedin! As you travel north from Clearwater, along the shores of the intercoastal waterway toward Dunedin's lovely downtown, you pass Edgewater Park. This is a two-mile sidewalk along the waterfront that gives you some of the best views of our numerous islands.   Dunedin Florida is a great place to live. There is always something going on in town and there are so many sports groups for local children to join that you never have to wonder what you can suggest to keep them active! For more information on Dunedin Florida or to begin a search for your home here in this wonderful town, give me a call today. I would love to assist you with your relocation plans.

Kellogg Island lies directly off the coast of Dunedin Florida in the Clearwater Intercoastal Waterway. We were out there a couple of days ago for a day out on the water. While it was raining over part of Dunedin Florida, as you can see in the video, the rest of the area was blue skies and sunshine. That is one of the things that drive tourists crazy - how it can rain here on one side of the street and yet be bone dry on the other side AND the sun is shining with blue skies on  both  sides of the street. That's Florida for you! Dunedin Florida is a beautiful place to live and play in the Florida sun. Give me a call today for more information and start your relocation plans.

Caladesi Island State Park off the shores of Dunedin Florida presents Clouds of Birds! Or at least that is how it looked to me.  We were out on the boat last Friday when clouds of sea birds started flying overhead. They swooped low and then rose high over us and over the sparking waters of the Gulf of Mexico and St Joseph's Sound. It was really a sight to behold, watching schools of Black Skimmers and Slaty-Backed Gulls crusing over the waters and diving in for a variety of tasty fish! Caladesi Island State Park off the shores of Dunedin Florida is one destination that really must be on your Bucket List!

The Kellogg Mansion is found right across from Kellogg Island and on the shoreline of Clearwater's Intercoastal Waterway. The mansion is actually in the town of Dunedin Florida but you would never know it since it is tucked back away from the main road, right on the water. It is only noticeable by water since it stands out from the other properties due to the extremely long dock!   That dock was built in the 1920's, along with the mansion. The dock can accommodate a 120 ft long yacht. The channel in front of the Kellogg Mansion was dredged out specifically so the Kellogg's friends could bring their yachts in for parties.  Today the Kellogg family no longer owns the mansion but the splendor and grandeur are still obvious as you pass by along the waterway since the back of the home has 30...

When a bull shark drives you out of the water, you move fast! Ronnie and I were out on the boat today. I took a ton of videos and photos! It was a perfect day in Paradise and I really mean that with all my heart. The day was wonderful! After spending a lot of time out by Caladesi Island and Honeymoon Island, we headed in a little toward Dunedin, since we knew afternoon thunderstorms would be coming in soon. We stopped at Kellogg Island (another blog about the island and home that belonged to the Kellogg family) and got out of the boat to walk around the island.  I like to take my walks in the water and skirt the islands. We had seen a large school of dolphin feeding on a nearby island, so when we saw something in the water that was large, I assumed it was a dolphin. I was about to go de...

Here you will find the Dunedin Public Pool Complex as well as the tennis courts that belong to Highlander Park. Just behind the park is Hammock Park, one of my favorite places for a quiet walk in the woods! If you have not checked out Highlander Park in Dunedin Florida, you really should. La Trattoria da Caetano is located at 2152 Main Street in Dunedin Florida and it was our destination for dinner last night. I had heard about this little restaurant before and wanted to finally see for myself what all the talk was about. La Trattoria da Caetano does not advertise at all! The restaurant has been open for over twenty years and it is through referrals that they built their clientele. They also have no menu and the dishes vary from night to night. The owner comes to your table with a cart containing samples of all of the cuts of meat and seafood that they are offering that evening. He discusses options on how it can be prepared and then it is made. Since there is no menu, you have no idea of the price in advance but I found that it was reasonably priced for the type of spec...
