Funds Available for Sussex County Home Buyers SUSSEX County Council’s Housing Trust Fund is helping home buyers with funding their down payments and/or closing costs. These funds are offered at zero interest. If the home buyer lives in the home for ten years the note is considered satisfied. The amounts of the funds are $10,000, $20,000, and $30,000. The amounts are based on the number of people in the household and income. The initial seed funds in the 2022 County budget are $500,000. Funds are available through December 31, 2024. The funds are considered a soft second at 0% interest.There are some events that may cause the second lien to be called in to be paid in full. Lewes Delaware is a historic town located at the mouth of the Delaware bay and the Atlantic ocean. The historic district has homes dating back to the late 1600's.  At the corner of 2nd and Mulberry St you will find the Ryves Holt House.  It is the oldest home in Lewes Delaware, originally dated to 1665. Last week I ventured down past Rehoboth Beach (once called "The Nation's Summer Capital") on a spit of land carrying Route 1 13 miles south to a little town called Bethany Beach.I wasn't sure what to expect--would there be a big boardwalk like Rehoboth, or massive condos towering over the highway like Ocean City Maryland, to the south?It turns out neither of these comparisons was valid. There was a block of shops leading towards the ocean, with a small gathering area and stage. Beyond that was the boardwalk, extending about a block to the north and south with a few shops.  If it looks rather deserted, it was probably because of the dreary weather.  Wandering south on the boardwalk, we found a cute gift shop that had this creative sign outside. I met my dauther in law and 6 year old granddaughter at Lavender Fields yesterday. The farm used to comprise of 100 acres but now is only 5. Ther are many different settings on the five acres to enjoy. There are rows and rows of lavender plants with a multitude of butterflies flitting from one plant to another.There are butterfly gardens, vegetable and flower gardens and a zen garden. I especially wanted to go to Lavender Fields yesterday because the Dahlias are at their peak. Volunteers tend to the dahlias each year encouraging the blooms to become as large as possible. There was a plein air artist sitting in this garden capturing the beauty of some of the blooms.There is a labyrinth surrounded by tall evergreens to walk and reflect. Over the weekend, an auction was held in Rehoboth Beach for inherited low digit automobile license plate numbers. Delaware may be the last state to still recycle all its vehicle license numbers going back to 1909. (We are so small that there is no chance of numbers going over 999,999). These old tin beauties are black with white numbers. Fifty years ago, blue plates with yellow numbers (once called the nation’s ugliest) replaced the black and white ones, but through some quirk in the law, the b & w ones can be replaced. It's hard to believe but this year will mark the 25th anniversary of a very popular event in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
