Wilton, CT - It Takes Work To Have Curb Appeal When the vines seem to win the battle.     We have bad vines and good vines in Wilton CT.     The bad vines seem to win all of the battles on the properties that are not cared for - bittersweet, wild rose, grape vines, euonymus vines, and poison ivy seem to grow at every roadside and in all of the deep woods.   The bittersweet vines are popular with those who are creating Christmas wreaths for the front doors, but not popular with those trying to get the seedlings out of their woods.   Same goes for wild rose, grape vines, and of course, poison ivy!    Wild rose at least has redeeming pretty flowers, but - poison ivy has no redeeming value, yet some folks in Wilton CT keep it growing on their properties!  Why don't folks care about their cu... 07/23/2010

        The storm was horrific, and the authorities are still wondering if there was a tornado involved.   Wednesday evening, from the Hudson Valley to Long Island, including the mid and Eastern part of Fairfield County,  huge thunderstorms racked the land, leaving trees uprooted and crossing driveways, roads, homes, on cars, etc.      Just past this photo was a "war zone"  that I was not allowed to enter.   The tree folks and CL&P were working hard to restore sanity and power to the area. 07/23/2010

Keeping the World Green (or Blue - Tahoe)       is such an important concept.   There are so many areas of this country that still do not recycle, and then there are areas that  are so thoroughly into it, that they have hardly produce any garbage at all.    Why not Wilton, CT In the San Francisco area, they recycle everything - even your grass clippings!   Just about the only things not recycled are the table scraps from your table.   If you have a dog that you feed those to, you are just about nil on your garbage.  They proudly recycle paper, magazines, bottles - glass and otherwise, cans, all trimmings from the yard, cardboard, styrofoam,  - did I miss something?    Why not Wilton, CT? Fourth of July Celebrations in Wilton CT There are a full slate of events planned in our quiet town of Wilton for the Fourth of July.      We are expected to have warm sunny skies, with a low pollen count, even.   Loads of outdoor activities are planned for the day.   We have a road race of 5K, softball game, live music and fireworks.    The first event  in Wilton starts at 8:30 with the Freedom Run Road Race, with registration and the race at Wilton High School track.    There are usually over 200 participants in the race, which starts at the track, wraps around past the high school along Lilly Way to Allen's Meadows and then back to the track   No hills, just easy fun for all.  There are 8 categories, from youth to the very "seasoned."     The fee is $10 for the youth under 14, and $2... 07/03/2010

There's a Bear in Them Woods!  in Wilton, CT For the last six months or so, the town of Wilton has been following a mother bear and her cub, named Lily.    There have been feeding stations set  up, and folks out with video watching them off and on.   They are not quite regular in their visits, so they are not always caught in sight.       Last week, on Monday, a bear was  spotted in Redding, in Georgetown on Tuesday, and three spottings in Wilton on Wednesday.   Wilton police sent out email notification of the sightings at 8:25, - first sighting at 6 am near the Wilton Riding Club on Riding Club Road off of Olmstead Hill Road.   By 6:30, it was spotted at Merwin Meadows on Merwins Lane off of Lovers Lane.     At 8 am, it was spotted on Belden Hill Road south of Drum Hill Road.   It was ... 06/28/2010

Things Not to Do With Your New Video Camera I finally invested in the HD Flip Video Camera - for those who don't have one yet, if you are a member of Costco, there's a discount coupon if you purchase it - no coupon necessary.    No excuses anymore....   I need to go back and get my discount. I learned very quickly NOT to pan back and forth - just slowly one way.  Let folks "smell the roses" as you go. I learned also on the boat that it can be very rocky and uncomfortable to watch in replay - only when the boat is smooth is it good.... I learned that if you zoom in it gets fuzzy for distance, so only use it closer. I learned that it's very difficult to video while walking and talking. Who Cares about the top (roof)?  You cannot see it! Recycling  in Our Area - Styrofoam goes where? We are all taught throughout our lives now to recycle.  Which is awesome!!!!    But, ......    what do we do with the styrofoam?   Didn't that disappear because that was awful toxic stuff?  No, we now can recycle styrofoam with our bottles and cans here in Wilton, CT.   The town is collecting plastics #s 1-7, metal, glass, newspapers, etc, in the recycling program.  Yea!!!   All of the styrofoam that is used to package the electronic items you purchase can be recycled.  Not the styrofoam peanuts - they still go to the UPS store.  I actually looked closely at a container the other day that was styrofoam, and it had a triangle and a number in it!   That's what got me realizing that things had changed.   Perhaps it could be that I NEVER have s... 05/24/2010

We Had Awesome Entertainment for the Relay Survivors!!    last night at the Relay For Life in Wilton, CT It turned out to be a beautiful night.   Sometimes we have to battle the rains, but this year the weather was perfect for the Relay for Life in Wilton, CT for all of those good souls who walk all night  to raise money for the cancer fight.    They started set up in the morning, then the fine touches for our dinner began at 3 in the afternoon.    We began the table set ups, the balloons, registration set up, microphones (first time- yea!), food tables, etc.     By 5 we had already  registered many cancer Survivors and their families,  and by 5:30, we had quite a big crowd all with their purple Survivor shirts on, ready for a good celebration evening.    The theme this year for the Rel... 05/15/2010

Relay For Life Comes to the Survivors in Wilton CT This Coming Weekend! This is the most amazing and fun event of the year.   I became involved in the Survivors' Dinner event three years ago, and keep returning eagerly every year!     The stories that are shared with me in the weeks leading up to the event are both heartwarming and heart breaking.   Each year, we have a large tent with tables and chairs reserved for the Survivors and their caregivers on the evening of the Relay For Life.     Beginning at approximately 3 pm, the Survivors begin to arrive.  They all seem to know where to go to find their tent.   I check them in, and in the process give them a ticket for the "give aways" after dinner.    I have spent the three weeks prior to the event walking into the merchants around town... 05/09/2010

Do You Need a Plant or Two - To Make Your Home Beautiful?   Today I drove downtown and gave some time to the Garden Club Plant Sale.  I helped move plants  around, and helped price them.   It felt really good to help out!    The Sale started this afternoon, and will continue tomorrow.    There are some really unusual plants and shrubs for your home  there!  I was amazed!   Try to pop in and see what you can get!  I returned later in the afternoon to pick up some tomato plants for my home, and there were plenty of very healthy plants -  of every variety known to man!    The Wilton Garden Club Plant Sale is on NOW and has some incredible plants!!!!!
