Westport Summer 2014 Glorious weather ushered in the first day of summer, as Westporters celebrated at Jesup Green, along the Saugatuck River, at the 6th Annual Great Duck Race. The event, sponsored by the Westport Sunrise Rotary, raises money for local and international charities.  As the crowd anxiously awaited the start of the race, they enjoyed the many activity booths, including children's crafts, face painting, food  and a chance to send local elected officials into the dunk tank.          Also in display were the fun and creative entries, vying for the Best Decorated Duck trophy.   With a slightly delayed start, as last minute raffles were sold, the ducks were finally manuevered into place. McGraw Hill Construction (MHC) just released findings from a new Green Home Builders and Remodelers Study showing that Green homes comprised 23 percent of the overall residential construction market in 2013 which is equal to $36 Billion market opportunity.  MHC estimates that the green market share will grow to between 26 percent and 33 percent by 2016 which is more than double of today’s market of $36 Billion to $83-$105 billion in 2016. 68% of builders and 84% of remodelers report that home owners are willing to pay more for green construction with an average of 3% for new green homes and 5% for green remodeling projects. Westport: There's a New Boy in Town You've probably heard the wise-crack answer to "When does life begin?"...When the kids leave home and the dog dies! For us, that situation occured fourteen years ago. We got Gambi, our first Miniature Schnauzer, just six months after we were married. He was our "first son" and was part of the family for almost seventeen years. Our boys had never known life without a "doggie brother" and, after losing Gambi, wanted us to get a new puppy. We brought Westi home, about a year later. He was with us for fifteen years. After that, my husband said he couldn't go through losing another dog. We were done! That was it! Never Again! Do Bamboo stalks become an invasive species for home owners in Westport, CT 06880?
