Happy New Year  Start Off on the Right FootWe begin a new year and we were so anxious for a clean slate that we watched the ball in New York in Times Square at midnight EST, and the Music Note makes its descent in Nashville at midnight CST.We want a clean slate and lose the negative memories of 2023.Many people will make resolutions as they believe that's the right thing to do but they last far too brief. Most of what we don't like about our lifestyle can be altered, as it just takes a bit of determination and the desire to see smiles on the people we impact and not the side glance of 'I can't believe you did that".Think back to the first time as a kid you put your hand near that too hot stove or BBQ grill. It was easy to remember the negative the next time and most of us didn't allow a ...

Charity Always Begins at HomeThe month of December is an active month for charities and organizations looking to get monthly pledges so as to continue doing the work they do. Whether it's for animals, children, or veterans. the work needs help and as the expression goes: You have no chance unless you ask.I get it, and we do it, most of which is locally with the church charities that feed the poor, through pantries.Even Santa's helpers with their red pots and bells in front of stores get assistance. For me, however, the commissions I earn have gone to the Susan Komen foundation for breast cancer and the Children's Miracle network for kids. The foundation for which I get a personal thank you is the Dennis Antonacci Jr Scholarship foundation. This is a charity that was established by my wife...

Prospect CT Residents Decorate EverythingOur little town of Prospect CT works to keep community spirits high throughout the year. It is especially high for the Christmas season starting with the lighting of the town tree right after Thanksgiving along with the Christmas parade.Residents are encouraged to show off their pride with decorations and prizes for best decorated house as well as street signs. I did a little driving early this morning to find some worthy signs and it seems as if the residents are feeling a little in the Hum-Bug mode as there were very few decorated.I was able to find a few where all seemed quite festive, and I share some of them below. All of the judging was to have been completed this past week. I haven't seen any posting of the winners and am curious as to what...

Friday Flags at Prospect CT Middle School:   Part 2My flag post this week got some curiosity going since it was a flag positioned in front of our middle school.  As a kid, I remember we had a brief moment after attendance was called, where some pupil was asked to get the flag that was furled in the corner and stand in front of the class so all could recite the Pledge of Allegiance. As the world has gotten so sensitive to equality and a sense of 'propriety', it was natural for those of us who remember different days to be curious. I reached out to someone that would definitely know. This person is a superintendent of a public school system here in CT and just this past month was selected as Superintendent of the year for 2024 in CT.  If anyone would know, it would be him.Every classroom h...

Friday Flags At Prospect CT Middle SchoolThe Prospect CT Town Hall, conveniently located at the center of the town, rests on a knoll. While walking across the parking lot to enter the office a look backwards offers a view of the Region 16 Middle School, Long River Midde school. The flagpole located outside the main entrance stands tall and our flag stands proudly giving the attendees a look at our banner each day.On this day the breeze was healthy, and I had many opportunities to get a good shot at the flag.So good that the kids are exposed daily and hopefully with the walls they are given the history of the flag and the proud heritage they may one day be asked to defend. Friday Flags At Prospect CT Middle School

Friday Flags: Veterans Respect the FlagI had a tone to my Friday Flags that would have been more appropriate around Veteran's Day, earlier in the month. If only I had thought of it, then.Exiting our little cul-de-sac, it was readily apparent that neighbors do display the flag. The sad part about that, however, is that of the owners that display are service veterans. With 14 houses on the street, we have 3 prominent flags displaying. At the bottom of the street is the home of a former Marine, who was called home a year ago.  His service was in Southeast AsiaThe corps flag was deteriorated, so his wife just out the state flag.My neighbor across the street is US Army and he also served in Southeast Asia. Then there's my flag, which is always out there. I am US Army as well.I have one friend ...

Thanksgiving 2023  A Day of CelebrationThere is a reason that the Thanksgiving holiday is the heaviest travel time of the year. People want to go 'home' to celebrate the holiday with family and close friends. It's not about the meal, although it is special. It's about being close to those special people in or lives and enjoying a laugh or a tear as it has been a while. The issues of life can be severe and being able to sit and enjoy the rewards that we worked so hard to obtain. However, you may spend the day, I hope that it will bring smiles and maybe a few tears, all good.Happy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving 2023  A Day of Celebration

Friday Flags on Prospect CT RoadsOut Central CT weather has been unfall like this week with temps well above normal. This also meant no fall breezes to get the flags waving, and I passed a few making mental notes to come back on a windy day.As if on cue, while driving back home early this morning the winds stirred a bit and I noticed a flurry that gave me a smile. The center of Prospect CT consists of a stop light where 2 state roads, intersect. Rt 69 which runs north and south and Rt 68 which runs east and west.Adorning each utility pole is an American flag. I notice then when the traffic is light but when the roads are busy, they go somewhat unnoticed.  Except not this morning. They are always there and if one should come down for any reason, someone will stop and place the flag near it...

The  Prospect CT Pumpkin Festival Was a Fun Time 2023The annual Prospect CT Pumpkin fest, which was originally supposed to be on Sat 10/15 was pushed ahead a day due to a rainy forecast. The new Sunday date was far better as the sun was out as where the crowds. Sunday seems to work better for some people. The array of pumpkins was impressive as it covered over 60ft of bleacher space. The awards were also displayed on the winners as each child did their best and some had impressive creativity.  We were there for a couple of hours walking the displays of vendors all with big smiles. The bookstore was also open with bargains galore and a free book for each adult that came in accompanied by a child. The child got the book. The food court area was very busy and the variety of offers filled the a...

What Makes Prospect CT A Fine Place to Call Home? Part 3Many of the residents of Prospect CT  enjoy living in stand alone residential properties. The majority of plots are individual sites and there are very few planned subdivisions in town.  As public services are so limited, there are limited areas for cluster properties like condos.  That doesn't imply that there are nine, however. There are 2 condo developments in Prospect CT town and they are designed for owners 55 years old minimum. The smaller of the 2 developments is called Boulder Brook Condos located off of Union City Rd, (Rt 68).   Built in 2005, Boulder Brook has just 35 units, all offering spacious 1590 sq ft, 2 bedroom homes. The basics include first floor master bedroom suites with plenty of closet space. What Makes Prospect CT A Fine Place to Call Home? Part 2Prospect CT is blessed to have services that are often the envy of some of the neighboring towns. The house that was once the home for the Hotchkiss family farm is now the towns' museum. The farmland itself is now a town recreation area and almost at the town center. The land is level and affords activities such as baseball, soccer, walking/running tracks; basketball courts; volleyball; in season ice skating, and a large playscape for kids with a gateway titled Field of Dreams. Behind town hall are tennis courts that are also used with moveable nets for pickleball, and adjacent to that is McGrath Park, which is stocked with fish for town anglers. There's a little league complex with 5 diamonds and a singular field for special games.I...

Friday Flags in Prospect CT 06712-2The center of Prospect CT is the intersection of 2 state roads. Each of the corners has a significant edifice to attract attention.Along one side of the roadway sits the town hall and it's ever-present American flag and also a flag for MIA servicemen. It has an access roadway that allows people looking to turn north on Rt 69 to not need the lights at the major intersection and just have a stop sign.Over the years, there have been all types of flowers planted there and as the area is so busy, they do not fare well. The corner now has a blaze of color that catches the eye and is impervious to the elements.A little breeze and they flutter and remind all that see them that we live in a great country.Friday Flags in Prospect CT 06712-2
