Today is October 17th, I just paid $2.91 a gallon for gas. All of my friends and family still have their jobs, and I'm not planning on touching my 401k for another 30+ years so I'm not really worried about my retirement. I would say 90% of people reading this blog are in the same position that I am.   Now, turn on your TV and flip on CNN or Fox News. Most of the stories are doom and gloom, how the "average" citizen is loosing their home, job, and retirement funds. Now the question that you should be asking yourself is why there is such a dichotomy between how the real average citizen is living vs the TV average citizen. What is causing this TV personality to be created. I think there's a simple explanation for this... 24 hour news networks. Gone are the day of a nightly news program whe...

Here's a Turkey Update - Just a few days ago I said I have never had Turkeys in my Orange CT yard.  I thought because of my dog Khali.  Well apparently they are not afraid of her - OK she was in the house, but can't they smell dog?  Here's some pictures I took thru the window.  He (I think it's a he) was eating the bird seed and drinking from the bird bath. I Love it!

Photos from my side back yard.  Last fall we ordered 32 fruit trees from a nursery in Pennsylvania and dug rows with a back hoe to get the soil prepared for when the trees arrived this spring.  The white tags you see in the photo are mesh bags filled with a bar of soap in the hope that they will actually keep the deer from eating the trees - we shall see. Behind the small pond we planted several varieties of raspberries, blackberries and strawberries, and in a row before the fruit trees several different kinds of blueberries.  I LOVE fruit and am trying to decide which I am more excited about, the 4 different cherry trees I planted or the blueberry bushes - YUM - can hardly wait for them to produce.

The Town of Orange CT in October of 2006 performed a revaluation on property assessments, which will be phased in over the next 5 years.  If you are interested in calculating the difference on your current home or on one you are interested in purchasing in the town of Orange the formula is as follows;  Example:  2006 assessment = 238,400                 2005 assessment = 138,000 238,400 - 138,000 = 100,400 100,400/5 = 20,080 20,080 + 138,000 = 158,080 158,080 x .0299 = $4,726.60

The garden Club in Orange CT presents "Proper Pruning Techniques" by Master Gardener Kevin Wasilewski, at the Case Memorial Library at 1:00pm.  A luncheon will be served at 11:30 followed by the clubs business.  Members of the club will exhibit forced branches and bulbs and potted plants. I will put this date on my calendar as I have ordered 34 Apple trees for this spring from Adams County Nursery in Pennsylvania as well as Cherry Trees, Peach, Prune and Apricot.  Let's just hope they survive the deer in the yard let alone my pruning technique.  From Nourse Farm in Massachusetts I have ordered Blueberry bushes, raspberry and blackberry and black raspberries, and I'm hoping if I plant enough the birds will save some for me.
