If you are looking to improve your running performance try a group run.  The New Haven Runners are the 25th largest meetup group worldwide with over ninety members.  On any given Satrudray morning you'll find about a dozen people ready to go at various paces and distances. Our morning route sounds impressive running through three towns but most of the time we run a max of 8.75 miles round trip.  Depending on the desired distance for the day many members turn around early. Going the full length is done in about 90 minutes.   On occasion some members may do a double or some combination for increased mileage.Beginning at East Rock Park on the corner of Livingston & Cold Spring Street we run north on Livingston Street, turn right on East Rock Road and left on Park Drive bringing us out of ...

The results are in for the 30th Annual New Haven Road Race.  Weather this year was perfect... a crisp Labor Day morning with blue sky and sunshine that brought out a record number of runners exceeding 5,000 for a day at the races.  Events began with the Half Mile Children's Run around the Green.   The new earlier start time of 8:15 allowed more adults to cheer the 280 kids on to finish their race.  Rounding the corner of Temple & Elm with a commanding lead was 13 year old Jeffrey Raucci who crossed the finish line in at 2:52 running at a pace of under 6 minutes per mile. This was my second year running so I stayed with the 5k race that drew a field of 2,223 finishers.  Since I normally finish in the middle of the pack I don't worry about losing a little time so I stopped for a photo opp ...

Headlines from the New Haven Register have caught my eye during the last few days and made me shake my head in amazement at the foolishness of our government leaders.A local Doctor at Yale-New Haven Hospital that came to this area a few months ago and his sister, an attorney visiting from Germany decided to play a worldwide running game to make friends.Well... Some frightened fool called the authorities and the equivalent of the Connecticut Ghost-Busters moved into action.  Hazmat crews from surrounding towns descended on the site and with all the wisdom of government agencies decided to evacuate IKEA.  Why would the BRAINS have all the people stand around the parking lot so they could inhale whatever potentially deadly fumes may come from the mystery powder?  Wouldn't they be safer r...

If you are going to be downtown on June 28 through July 7, don't miss the filming of the next Indiana Jones movie directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford. Plans call for filming scenes at the Yale campus, including the Commons dining hall.Local businesses on Chapel Street will also be feature in the film.  Enson's, Merwin's Art Shoppe and Peter Indorf Jewelers are just a couple of stores that are being transformed back into the 1950's for film. If you are lucky maybe you be able to catch a glimpse of Harrison Ford.

The other day I was in New Haven to watch the Guilford vs Madison Girls Hockey playoff and after the game I had a little free time.   It must be 20 years since I ventured to the Top of East Rock so with my camera in hand I set out on my adventure.Guess my memory has faded, thought I'd just drive up to the top and take a few pictures.  Unfortunately there was a gate so I had to set off on foot. My intension was to get some nice city skyline photos but it was late afternoon and my view looking west was into the sun. I did get a few decent shots.  Here is a close up view of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument and a distant view of Sleeping Giant          Sleeping Giant also offers some decent views.  Once the weather turns a bit warmer I will try a run up to the tower, round trip is about 5k.
