Hannah's Dream Playground - East Shore Park New Haven Connecticut When she was eight years old, Hannah Kristan of New Haven Connecticut had a vision.  Born with Spina Bifida and confined to a wheelchair since she was two years old, Hannah was unable to play at the local playground or at school recess due to the lack of handicapped-accessible equiprment.   Hannah wanted to play just as much as everyone else her age and did not let her limitations stop her from starting a campaign to finance a handicap accessible playground where all children could play together by selling homemade jewelry and baked goods. Through Hannah's persistence and the generousity of the community Hannah's Dream Playground opened on September 8, 2000 at East Shore Park on Woodward Avenue.  This 300,000 square foot ...

Morris Cove is the neighborhood I call home tucked away in along the eastern portion of New Haven Harbor in the city of New Haven CT.  Morris Cove was originally part of the town of East Haven and was named for one of it's early settlers, Thomas Morris.  In 1881, Fair Haven, Grannis Corners and Morris Cove were ceded to New Haven. The beauty of Morris Cove is reflected within its shoreline appeal.  Wherever you live you are within walking distance of the breathtaking views of  Long Island Sound and feel the cool ocean breezes from the Pardee Seawall, Fort Hale Park and Lighthouse Point Park.  The choices of home styles you'll find along the tree lined streets and beachfront coves includes the classic colonials and multifamily homes built in the mid to late 19th century through the e...

What a great weekend it was to have fun in the sun at Lighthouse Point Park in the Morris Cove neighborhood of New Haven Connecticut. My 6 year old granddaughter Brooke was visiting for the long weekend and living only a short distance away from Lighthouse Point Park, we decided to take a little visit to the park. As you near the entrance to the beach, the first thing you see is the Splash Pad where children and adults frolic in a variety of water stations with water sprinkling and splashing from all directions.  Naturally, Brooke made a beeline to the Splash Pad and had a splish-splashing time.                 From the Splash Pad, we strolled around the park where children were enjoying the playground of swings, slides and jungle gyms and watched a game of beach volleyball. The beach w...

MODERN PIZZA 874 STATE STREET NEW HAVEN, CT  203-776-5306   I'm not sure if Modern Pizza in New Haven, CT has been blogged about before.  If it has, it needs to be blogged about again.  I have forgotten how good the pizza is here.  My sons and I went here for dinner tonight because I was craving a thin crust pizza.. with LOTS of flavor.  It did NOT let me down. There was NO lines, and service was very fast and efficient.  Pepe's and Sally's are in the area too, and are also very good, but this place is EASY on and off I-91 as well. I would recommend this restaurant highly to anyone in the New Haven, CT area. Bon Appetite!!

Today the blue skies of New Haven were exceptionally clear as I viewed Harkness Tower from my ceremonial seat during the 307th Commencent at Yale University. The sun was hot but a cool breeze refreshingly swept through the Old Campus Courtyard most of the morning. Among the highlights of the outdoor ceremony was a most notable face in the crowd. The Magical Mystery Tour of life brought none other then Sir Paul McCartney to the Yale Commons to receive an Honorary Doctor of Music Degree. The best things in life may be free but a certain satisfaction comes from hard work and reaching a challenging goal. The real acheviement of the day came inside the walls of Woolsey Hall when our daughter in law, Nadya Maria Morales-Cummings, received her "earned" Doctor of Philosophy.
