Another Fun year at the New England Mtg Expo! At the event we had some fun.  We wore Doctor's outfits (we will fix your credit - fix - get it) and gave away free beer and candy.  We had a couple Kegs of free beer - one Guinness and one Bass (don't even get me started on what the Casino charges you for a keg).  We also gave away over 100 pounds of candy.  We filled and distributed 1400 pill bottles with skittles or M&Ms.  We hired a model (the one in the Nurse's outfil below) to greet people at the entrance and write them a perscription for pills and beer - to be filled at our booth. A fun time . . . Now what do we do next year ?????   Any suggestions?     :)   MattToll Free: 888-NCFIXER (623-4937)Toll Free Fax: 888-FAX-4020 (329-4020)Local: 860-282-6181281 Hartford Turnpike Ste 500 Vern...

Man if there is a poster child for how stupid banks and GSE's can be - this short sale success story is it!   Out of state clients call me because their tenants are vacating the property and they wish to sell their Connecticut property. This should have been an easily approved short sale due to the sellers relocating out of state for work right?  Should have been.....   GMAC is hands down the best lender when it comes to short sale processing ( with Provident funding running a close second ). I regularly get approvals from GMAC in 3 weeks or less - I could only wish with this one though.   We list the property aggressively, get 3 offers and end up selling the property for 15k over list price. The BPO comes back a few days later... and comes in 50k above list price.  Completely baffled a...

The Connecticut Wine Trail: Eleventh Stop   Maugle Sierra Vineyards only has 11 acres of producing vines, but just because they're a small winery doesn't mean their wines don't have big flavor. Established in 2002 by Paul and Betty Maugle, Maugle Sierra is dedicated to producing premium wines from Connecticut grapes, including St. Croix, Traminette and Cayuga, and they're adding more each year. Tucked away in southeastern Connecticut in the town of Ledyard, the winery is a must see on the Connecticut Wine Trail. They're situated just 5 minutes from Foxwoods Resort and Casino, 10 minutes from Mohegan Sun Casino, and also 10 minutes from Mystic Seaport. On this day, we were on our second day at Foxwoods Resort (on them,of course!) and also our second day of wine tastings, and Maugle Sierr...

Today is the first day of the new smoking tax.  Before today, Connecticut taxed cigarettes at the rate of $2 per pack.  As of today that is now $3 per pack - a whopping 50% increase! Since I have never smoked, the tax itself does not affect me but I recognize that fact that it is getting a bit excessive!  I hope more people think it's too expensive and decide to quit.  In the long run, if more people quit, it should lower the states long term medical costs. Tell me - what do you think? :)MattToll Free: 888-NCFIXER (623-4937)Toll Free Fax: 888-FAX-4020 (329-4020)Local: 860-282-6181330 Roberts Street 4th FloorEast Hartford, CT 06108 credit repair company

An email recently landed in my inbox with the subject line " Ledyard Police is now following you on Twitter."  I admit it was a bit disconcerting.  Actually, I freaked out temporarily when I realized I was one of only 3 people being followed.  I ran into  "Ledyard Police" a few nights later.  I'm a member of the Ledyard Town Council and we were discussing the police budget.  (Honestly, I don't make this stuff up.) As it turns out  "Ledyard Police" was following me for all the right reasons.  It seems that police departments in the area are considering Twitter as another resource to notify residents in case of emergencies. I joined Twitter in 2007. Back then it was intimate, like the bar where everyone knew your name.  Since then Twitter has exploded. When someone follows me, I usually ...

Lake of Isles, owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, is nice looking most times of year but absolutely magnificent during the fall.  Managed by Troon Golf, Lake of Isles is located in North Stonington, CT but is just a golf ball throw away from Ledyard, home of Foxwoods Resort Casino. It offers two championship courses, one private and one public. Both were designed by legendary golf course architect Rees Jones.  They have been opened since 2005 and have won several awards since their debut.  The property has all of the niceties you might expect, including a spectacular 50,000 square foot club house, good food and a pretty impressive golf academy. But to me, it is the rolling terrain, the natural landscaping, and the wonderful vistas that makes golfing at Lake of Isles so enjo...

K-9 Clean Up Service comes to townGales Ferry resident Anne Marie Beers stopped by my office today to place an ad in my "I Love Ledyard" newspaper.  I was fascinated by her new business, Pooper Troopers, which was born about 4 months ago. As advertised, Pooper Troopers "takes away what your dog leaves behind".  Anne Marie was a good sport and even laughed when I expressed my concern about what a crappy job she had. I suspect she's heard it a million times and my comment didn't come off as very original. Besides being a fun person, I loved the fact that Anne Marie donates a portion of every fee charged to our local animal shelter.  So if you don't have time or simply don't want to do the deed, give the Pooper Troopers a call at 860-464-2604.  Fellow bloggers take note:  Please be kind wi...

I'm originally from the city of Pittsburgh. I was born, raised and attended school there. I still love Pittsburgh and all that goes with living in the city - a championship football team, shopping, museums, music and the arts. But you gotta love living in a small town like Ledyard, CT, as I have for the past 35 years. My friends, who cheer for the New England Patriots, kindly tolerate my dedication to the Pittsburgh Steelers. One of my rituals throughout the day is checking the local online newspaper site to see what is being reported. On Friday, the following was listed as BREAKING NEWS:Turkey vs. Car Slows Traffic on I-395Traffic was backed up briefly on Interstate 395 North this afternoon after a turkey wandered onto the highway and flew into the windshield of an oncoming car.  The ...

Ledyard, CT is a small town.  Although we have the world's largest casino, Foxwoods Resort Casino, within our borders, we are a mostly rural community with a population of about 15,000.  Technology came late to the Ledyard area.  We have only had high speed internet service available within the last 5 years. We used analog cell phones well after most areas had digital available.  Stopping at a Starbucks to use their wireless connection isn't an option in Ledyard.  Heck, we don't have a Starbucks.  Probably never will.  It's just not that kind of town. But we do have a McDonald's at one of the few traffic lights in town.  AND imagine my surprise to drive by today and see them advertising Free Wi-Fi.  I've since discovered that McDonald's has over 7000 wi-fi spots around the world.  At 54...

My name is Linda Davis and I am a weather weenie!I'm not sure when I first developed such a keen interest in weather but it was sometime after I moved to Ledyard, CT in 1974.  In fact, I am so much of a "weather weenie" that during the 2004 Hurricane season, I signed online to a paid weather service, Accuweather Professional.  While reading Meteorologist Joe Lundberg's blog, I paged down to his biography.  "Joe was born in Washington, D.C, on November 22, 1961.  When he was 9 months old, his family moved to Ledyard, Connecticut, where he graduated from Ledyard High School in 1979."  Needless to say, I was delighted to find a Ledyard High School grad who had made a career of one my favorite subjects.  I emailed Joe and asked if he could share with me how he found his way from the town o...

This is a two part blog in the same blog.   A double blog, duo blog, twin blog.  A sign/sign blog.Political Signs - Besides all the annoying TV ads, the political signs in my area have reached epic proportions.  it is downright stupid.  Last year I was running for Town Council and my party proposed that we limit signs to just a few locations.  Since small town politics requires that you pretty much fund your own campaign, we thought that would reduce costs for each candidate.  Many of the signs end up getting stolen anyway, so we thought we were proposing something good.  Unfortunately the other party didn't agree...you...
