from my blog at www.greenwichct.com We joke about how cold it is, but in all seriousness if you are having issues with your heat swing by one of the newly set up Greenwich Warming Centers.  So far the town has said that there have been no reported problems, though they want to be prepared.  It is freaking freezing outside. Greenwich Warming Centers * All Greenwich libraries on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday during normal library hours. * Greenwich Library, 101 W. from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com For those of you who enjoy learning more about Greenwich’s rich history, I advice you to take a look into the Greenwich Historical Society (www.greenwichhistory.org).  This group hosts many neat programs. One that is coming up on Tuesday night at 7pm explores a controversial wedding to take place in the 1640s.  You can learn more about it at http://www.greenwichhistory.org/adult.php

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS. Ok, so I’m a Giants fan and that’s not changing, though when it comes down to a local team being so close to the Super Bowl, I’d rather see the Jets make it than anyone else.  Now if anyone tells you that since we live in Connecticut and Connecticut is a part of New England we should all be rooting for the Patriots, tell them to…. Greenwich is a suburb of Manhattan. Rangers/Islanders, Giants/Jets, Yankees/Mets, those are your choices J

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com It’s freaking cold outside.  Do you really need 15 jackets in your house when you really only use two or three a year?  Load up your Range Rover and take a ride north to the Banksville Community House (12 Banksville Road, Greenwich, CT) between noon and 3pm for your good deed of the weekend.

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com I try to keep all of the Greenwich 365 to things within Greenwich or our neighboring towns, but while this is in Westport, I can’t help but promote it.  Hopefully the snow won’t be too bad and people will make it to Seussical The Musical Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd at the Westport County Playhouse. Dr. Seuss was a genius. For more information you can go to the Westport County Playhouse website at: http://www.musictheatreofct.com/seussical10.html

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com I’m not sure if my daughter’s running around the house, throwing herself on the floor and inch-worming herself into a corner, all while making extremely strange noises, would be considered “creative” dance.  Then again, she’s 16 months old.  For those of you who have significantly more developed 4 to 5 year olds and feel they need an outlet, the Greenwich YMCA hosts “Kids Dance Class: Creative Ballet” on Tuesdays between 2pm and 2:45pm.  Now, I’m still a strong proponent of the Greenwich Dance Studio, but gather that is a hard class to get into.  While you are on the waiting list (there is no better operation in town), you might want to try this to keep your Twinkle-toes in step.  Here’s some more information: Where: YMCA, 50 E Putnam Ave, Greenwich, ...

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com On Monday the Bruce Museum will be hosting its annual family event in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.  The main performance will be the of “Struggle for Freedom” by the Young Audiences of Connecticut’s Collective Consciousness Theater. “In it, nine courageous civil rights figures, including Dr. King, Rosa Parks and Thurgood Marshall, are profiled in stories that depict their backgrounds, what they fought for and the times in which they lived.” The Performances are 45 minutes long and take place at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. The show is appropriate for grades 5 and up or with parent/guardian. From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com School’s out and you need to get the kids out of the house. Why not send them sledding! I’m wracking my brain thinking of good places I can recommend to go sledding today. I’m not sure if I can officially recommend going to certain campuses and golf course…(you didn’t get the idea from me).  The two that I can recommend are Bruce Park (south east corner there is a great spot) and deep into Pientum Park there is a great area. If you know of other places to go sledding feel free to mention it on Facebook here, email me at scott@elwell.com, or make comments here.

Ok, it's time to bring out the big guns.  I want to do some advertising. I'm 32 years old, have an MBA within one of the best real estate schools in the country and have been working in the real estate industry my entire career. I'm young, agreesive, smart and will work my tail off to get business. In the town that I work (Greenwich, CT - I was also born here) the majority of real estate agents are female and much older.  I'm not saying that they don't know what they are doing, as some of the best real estate agents i have ever meet are from here and in that group, though I'd like to come up with a slogan/headline I could use for advertising to distinguish myself even more. Something like - "Not your mother's friend." "This is my full-time job." etc...   Any ideas?

I’m sure that most of you are more concerned with what is going to happen in 2011 than what happened in 2010, though in order to properly do my job I need to give you a little history briefing. Don’t worry; I’ll also talk about what I see going forward. Looking back at 2010, it would be easy for me to tell you that we had a great year because 44% more sales took place (478) vs. 2009 (332), but that doesn’t tell the whole picture. This 44% increase over 2009 is following a decrease of 20% from 2008 after a 37% decrease from 2007. What I am trying to say is that while we did have a great 2010, we need to put things in perspective before we get too excited. read more here: http://greenwichct.com/2011/01/2010-greenwich-ct-real-estate-market/

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 84 - Learn about the Greenwich Land Trust For those of you who don't mind waking up early, the Greenwich Land Trust will be opening up a forum on Tuesday morning at 8am (registration and coffee begin at 7:45am) in the Greenwich Town Hall Meeting Room. Don't worry about the registration part, this event is free and open to all. If you would like to register in advance, you can send an email to jacinta@gltrust.org. This is a fantastic organization that is responsible for the preservation of over 729 acres of property in Greenwich, CT. Here's a little blurb about Tuesday's event: "The Greenwich Land Trust in partnership with Audubon Greenwich and the Town of Greenwich Conservation Commission invites you to bring your questions and concerns to a for...

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 83 – Wedding Fashions through Greenwich History   (I'd go to my blog to read this - much easier as I'm having a hard time with formatting on AR) Sunday the Perrot Memorial Library will play host to the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich’s Intergenerational Family Paper-Doll-Making Workshop: Here Comes the Brides – Wedding Fashions. That was a long sentence, I’m sorry. Its 9:20pm and my brain is exhausted. Anyhow, this is the description provided about this workshop: “Sponsor Perrot Memorial Library & Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich. Event Intergenerational Family Paper-Doll-Making Workshop: Here Comes the Brides - Wedding Fashions. Tel # (203) 869-6899 to RSVP. Date January 9, 2011 Time 2:00 P.M. & 3:00 P.M. Location Vande...

For those of you who might be interested, here are two typical condo and co-op sales in Greenwich, CT.  A lot of people don't realize that it is possible to move into Greenwich for under $500k. http://greenwichct.com/2011/01/condo-and-co-op-sales-20-church-1-putnam-hill/

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 82 – Children’s Educational Zone Grand Opening Tomorrow (Saturday Jan 8th) is the Grand Opening for the Children’s Educational Zone in Port Chester. I don’t know a ton about this group, but from the looks of their website (http://childrenseducationzone.com/) they appear to have something good put together. As the father of a 16 month-old, I’ve started to pay attention to organizations that cater to kids. If you are interested in attending the opening you can find more information on their website. http://childrenseducationzone.com/

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 81 - Guitar Concert Sunday at Cole Auditorium I’m not sure who this dude is, but if he were alive he’d be turning 100 this month. Anyhow, he’s got a long Wikipedia page talking about his assistance in the development of Jazz. “Guitarist Frank Vignola will play a concert in celebration of the gypsy genius Django Reinhardt’s 100th birthday at the Greenwich Library on Sunday. Vignola, a major proponent of Reinhardt’s style of playing, has performed and recorded with Ringo Starr, Madonna and Donald Fagen and has been touted as one of Les Paul’s favorite guitarists. In his library appearance, Vignola will revisit the music of Reinhardt more than 50 years after his death. Born into a family of Romani gypsies, Reinhardt created his own style of traditi...

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 80 – Recycle Your Christmas Tree For those of you who are wondering what now to do with your Christmas Tree, here is some information on drop areas from the town: “CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING The Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that residents may begin to bring their Christmas Trees for recycling after Sunday, December 26, 2010. All trees to be recycled must be undecorated (ornaments, tinsel, lights and stands must be removed). Christmas tree recycling will end on January 31, 2011. The Parks & Trees Division will be recycling Greenwich Christmas trees by chipping them. The wood chips can be used by residents as mulch or compost. Tree chips retained by the Town will be used in parks as mulch for trails in woodlands, shrub b...
