The numbers seem to indicate and upward momentum from 2009 with more homes sold and with an average home price up in some markets. Darien number of sales is up 43% from last year with a year to date average sales price of $1,681,472. New Canaan's home sales year to date as of November compared to last year up 47% and Rowayton showing steady at a gain of 2%. Single Family Properties. Christmas Lights in Darien, Ct. ~ 2010   Growing up our grandparents used to bundle us up at night and get all of us in the car and drive around the  town to look at all the Christmas lights  and decorations.  Of course back then it took the car about half an hour before the heat kicked in so we would just be getting back home by then. The Real Estate picture is turning around nicely for Darien, CT.  So far for the first 10 months of 2010 we are seeing a rebound in the median home price which fell from a high of $1,437,000 in 2007 to $1,143,500 in 2009. This year so far it is closely back to 2008 levels at $1,325,000. In 2007 the sales volume was 342 home sale for the year falling to 187 &182 for years 2008 & 2009.  ~ Connecticut Paella ~ We have been making this dish for years and all of our friends love it. The best thing about Paella is that there are no fixed rules, the dish changes with the seasons and what is available at the local market. That being said there are a few key ingredients such as Spanish Rice, Paella pan, chicken stock and fresh seafood (if you like). We really like our local produce and fresh seafood from Connecticut. Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival, Oct 16th, 2010.       The Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival is setting up ready to go on Saturday October 16th, 2010 from 10 am to 4 pm, rain date: Sunday October 17th.  Included in this year's events will be the Haunted House, rock climbing, bouncy castles and rides for all ages. Nature Center, Darien, Connecticut. The Darien Nature Center was founded in 1980 to create a place for the study of nature and environmental education. The Darien Nature Center is located at Cherry Lawn Park and is a non-profit membership organization and is open year round to the public. A small walking trail system is accessible at the rear of the building through the woods that ends up at a pond; the whole park is about 26.5 acres with playgrounds, tennis courts and a community garden. Darien Library, Connecticut ~ LEED Gold Accredited.  The New Darien Library opened January 10, 2009 with a LEED Gold accreditation from the U.S.Green Building Council (USGBC). The 54,000 square foot, three story building has such Green features as geothermal heating and cooling, a bioswale and underground storage to catch storm water runoff, dual flush toilets, and an automatic CO2 sensors to help control interior airflow, day lighting and temperature.
