This weekend was the Colorado Mountain Winefest in Palisade, Colorado.  For the 1st time in its 24 year history the event was SOLD OUT! Events started on Thursday with a Food and Wine Paring through Saturday with the actual Winefest 2015 at Riverbend Park.   There were over 50 Colorado wineries pouring samples of their best vintages.  There were well known artisans selling their gorgeous jewelery and wine related decor along with   tee shirts and souvenirs.. The skies were sunny, the weather perfect and the music and wine flowed!  People strolled through the booths, some relaxed under the shade trees and others danced to the music. I'll let my pictures and videos speak for the event!  I think its symbolic that VINE captured the nectar from the vine so well! Relaxing is the thing to do o...

Scenes From the 2015 Palisade Lavender FestivalI've been going to this festival since it started. It's always been a great time, but this year was the best yet. This isn't an extra large festival. It's held in a small Western Colorado town in a small park, but the turnout was the best I've seen. My favorite day is Saturday in the Town Park. The festival actually runs Friday through Sunday. Here's more information. There were less than 50 vendors but the variety and unique nature of the products for sale made it seem like there were more. Two of the local wineries were also on hand (this is wine country). Of course there were all kinds of products using lavender...cookies, breads, lavender wands, healing balms, lotions, oils and sprays. I expected to find the lavender products...after al...

This is the only festival in Colorado celebrating this very useful herb. Friday is the day for the local lavender farm tours. You can get more information on the festival website. Saturday is a fun day in the park with all kinds of vendors, food and live music. There are also cooking demonstrations using lavender.  Palisade, Colorado Wine Country in the Spring is Beautiful!Spring has arrived and the grapevines and orchards are full of blossoms.  Spring is also that time of year when the festivals start.  This weekend is the Barrel into Spring event. Highlights include behind the scenes winery and vineyard tours, exquisitely prepared gourmet meals, tasting of wines that are not readily available to the general public, and of course, barrel sampling of wines paired with specialty foods.Palisade is a charming little town about 12 miles east of Grand Junction.  Palisade is small and mostly rural with a lot of agriculture, but it has charm all of its own.  From Main St. with barrels of flowers on the sidewalks, the aroma of fresh baked goods from the bakeries, to the bustling summer Farmer's Market.  ...

2014 Palisade CO Lavender Festival...Things to do in Western Colorado. Mark your calendar for July 11th to the 13th. This is the fourth year for this festival. The setting is absolutely beautiful in the small mountain town of Palisade, CO at the foot of Mount Garfield.  I absolutely love this festival. But I have a passion for growing veggies and herbs and using them in my cooking and around the house. The Colorado Lavender Festival celebrates the beautiful and wonderful smelling lavender plant. There are cooking demonstrations, live music, festival food, vendors and tours of Western Slope lavender farms. Here you can find unique gifts and something special to treat yourself.  Here are some pictures from last year's event.    The festival starts off Friday, the 11th, with a tour of diff...

Scenes from The Palisade, CO Lavender Festival. Palisade, Colorado hosts this state's only lavender festival. This year was the third time around for this event, and it just keeps getting bigger each time. Palisade is a small community about 10 miles east of Grand Junction. It's best known for it's wineries and peaches, but there are also many roadside fruit and veggie stands that show how well any type of produce grows in this area. That includes the lovely and fragrant lavender plant. Here we see one of the younger festival goers enjoying a refreshing lavender flavored beverage.         The cooking demonstrations were very popular. This is something the festival has every year. There's a cookbook available for purchase, and you guessed it...it's all about using lavender in your cookin...

3rd Annual Colorado Lavender Festival, Palisade...A Treat for The Senses. Colorado has a lot of festivals...music, harvest, fruit, outdoor activities, ect., but this is the only Lavender Festival in Colorado. It's right here on the beautiful Western Slope in the small town of Palisade. At the Colorado Lavender Festival you can taste, smell and feel lavender. There are homemade lavender lotions, candles and foods for sale. You can sample the different products at most of the booths. Last year I had lavender gelato and learned to make a lavender salad. I bought some wonderful lotions, and I hope I can get some more of them this year. This is a three day festival starting on Friday, July 12th, 2013 and running through Sunday. Most of the events are FREE! On Friday the festival kicks off wi...

What's That Smell??? It was all over the Palisade, Colorado Memorial Park. That's because the park played host to Palisade, Colorado's second annual Lavender Festival. This year the Lavender Festival was bigger yet, and it included a cooking demonstration. Everything Lavender you can imagine could be found today. Have you ever had a Lavender Brownie? Lavender Gelato? Lavender and lemon water? Well I hadn't either until today.                   I even got to see a Lavender Farm. It was a lot of fun and there were a lot of other crafts for sale, besides Lavender products. Even my teenager was entertained for a short time. For more information on this year's festival and next year's event visit www.coloradolavenderfestival.com. Looking for a good real esate agent on the Western Slope of Co...

Today after eating a huge dinner on Thursday for Thanksgiving you can add another pound or two in Downtown Palisade. Every store has a chocolate treat and a check in Registry. Buy local and support your local economy. The Palisade Chocolate Walk is an annual event.   Cholcolate is always a good draw for most everybody. Hats off to Kathy at the Chamber of Commerce and her trust sidekick Melinda.

I love the Palisade/Grand Junction Colorado Area for the many fun events, scenery, agriculture and especially wine. Palisade started growing grapes for wine just twenty years after Napa Valley. In 1881 George A. Crawford (founder of Grand Junction) planted 60 acres of mostly grapes in Palisade on Rapid Creek. When alcohol production was made illegal the farmers switched to peaches. 1968, 35 years after prohibition ended Gerry Ivancie opened Invancie Winery. The Ivancie Winery was Colorado’s first modern winery. Gerry Ivancie developed experimental premium wine grapes. In 1990 “the Grand Valley” was awarded  the government term “American Viticultural Area” which denotes a specified grape-growing region that meets certain standards.   There are now over 100 wineries in Colorado 75% of whi...

This morning while I was picking some vine ripened tomatoes from my garden and I could feel the cool breeze blowing across the Colorado River, I stopped for a moment and just looked around at the beautiful valley I call home. WOW what a wonderful place to live. I have what is called a gentleman's farm ( a small acreage used as a hobby farm to grow fruits and vegetables.) I grow mostly vegetables and leave the fruit to the professionals that are good at what they do. It is just walking distance to the fruit stands, so you can have the fresh stuff any time you want in the summer. This is truly why I love living in Palisade, there are allot of different types of properties in Palisade, Large orchards, Award winning wineries, and allot of farms just like mine, just for fun. Or if you would ...

This years Peach Fest is a day longer than in years past. There seems to be lots more people in town as a result. The Pancake Breakfast was a roaring success with people lined up to get pancakes, sausage and eggs with peach topping of course. The breakfast is in the park behind my house. I brought my own plates filled them up and ate at home. My husband could not take off from his at home job so he was grateful.  Today is the last day. I will go down and see my tired friend at the Palisade Chamber of Commerce and all the Peach growers. My assistant Karen is working a booth for Bikki Farms. She is gonna be wicked tired.  Living in an Agricultural community is fun. From my kitchen window I see the tractors filled with peach boxes being taken to market. Up on Orchard Mesa where most of the...
