Copper Mountain, CO - Since 2001 the senior leadership at Intrawest has been in heated discussion regarding the continued development of Copper Mountain Resort.  After completing over 500 residential units and tens of thousands of square feet of commercial space in 2001 the development came to a halt.  With the exception of several townhomes in the Union Creek area at Copper, Intrawest was reluctant to continue with their large scale reconfiguration of the resort until the Summit County Board of Commissioners signed off on critical changes to the already approved density.  This week the BOCC unanimously approved the PUD putting Intrawest in the driver's seat of the development at Copper Mountain.  A complete outline of the PUD and the amendments can be found at Copper Colorado PUD.   It... 08/16/2008

Copper Mountain in Summit County Colorado will present its plan to shift about 590 units of yet to be built housing within the resort's base area and add a large condo-hotel project to the mix during a two-day hearing this week in front of the Tenmile Planning Commission.Copper also wants to eliminate 42,000 square feet of set aside commercial density and relocate another 72,000 square feet of commercial space for shops, restaurants and service facilities to areas that will be closer to current uses and walking paths. The plan anticipates about 1.5 acres of wetlands at the resort to be effected. This has been and can be a deal breaker in the past, but Copper will be restoring an additional 3 acres of wetlands to meet the 2-1 ratio required. Copper Mountain is one of Summit County's premier ski resorts.  It is my favorite resort to ski because the choice of terrain is incredibly varied and the mountain is easy to navigate.  You can send the beginners to Union Creek where the green runs have little slope and head on over to Resolution Bowl for double black diamond steeps and bumps.  Owning at Copper allows you to wake up and walk to the slopes.  No parking required!  When you are not using your unit, you can rent it through a  number of different property management companies.  03/19/2008
