Wordless Wednesday...Cedaredge, Colorado After the Rain. It started raining yesterday night and it kept raining throughout the night. I live on a mesa outside of town, so I get a bird's eye view of the town every morning as I'm driving in to work.  I leave the house early to take my daughter to school, and we had some pretty great scenery to help wake us up. It was a beautiful morning, and I just thought I would share these pictures. Cedaredge, Colorado is a small mountain town with about 1800 people. It sits at the base of Grand Mesa...the world's largest flattop mountain. The Grand Mesa Scenic Byway runs north and south through Cedaredge and up over Grand Mesa. You Wouldn't Expect THIS In A Small Town. THIS is Starr's Guitars in Cedaredge, Colorado. It's a small town store with a big city inventory. Cedaredge, Colorado has less than 1800 people. It's a small mountain town at the base of Grand Mesa, the world's largest flattop mountain. People come from all over Colorado to shop the service and selection offered at Starr's Guitars.   David Starr, a talented musician and songwriter, opened the Cedaredge store in June of 2001. There's No Blue In This Blue Moon, Cedaredge, Colorado. This is the last blue moon for 3 years. Blue moon is a term used to describe a month that has two full moons. The phrase isn't used to describe the moon's color, but apparently is used to describe the infrequency of this occurrence.   My daughter took this picture as we were driving home on Thursday night...one night before the official full, blue moon status. The moon is a difficult thing to photograph, but she did great. Our next blue moon will happen on July 31, 2015. A full moon happens every 29.5 days. Due to it's short number of days, February is the only month that will never have a blue moon. There's Still Time to Sign Up for The Cedaredge, Colorado Dog Jog. This is the first year for this event, and all proceeds will go to The Cedaredge Animal Shelter. The Cedaredge Dog Jog will start at 8AM at Aspen Trails Campground on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 at the base of scenic Grand Mesa.   This is a 3K (1.86 miles if my math is correct) fun run or walk with your dog. Prizes will be awarded for the first 3 men and women finishers. All participants will get a T shirt and a bandanna. How Does Your Garden Grow??? Cedaredge, Colorado. Well mine does pretty well with very little effort from me, and thank goodness for that, because I've been really busy. I elect to grow all of my veggies and herbs without chemicals. I've grown all my gardens organically for about 20 years now. But how does my garden grow so well with so little attention from me? The Chapel of The Cross, Cedaredge, Colorado. This is a beautiful spot in Cedaredge, Colorado's Pioneer Town. The grounds are amazingly kept and The Chapel of The Cross is sheltered by large shade trees. The Chapel was a dream of Don and Inez Petersen, that became a reality due to their inspiration and determination. The Recent Rains Have Left Us With Some Great Cedaredge, CO Area Photo Opps. These pictures were taken from my deck by my daughter. Lately we've had some rain in the Cedaredge area of Delta County, but we are still at a level 2 fire ban, and that is pretty serious. When you get the rains, it feels nice, but the next day it warms up in the 90's again, and that doesn't help the fire danger situation. But as my daughter reminds me, with these pictures, there is still a bright spot and there are still wonderful things that Mother Nature has for us. What A Sight For Sore Eyes...Cedaredge, Colorado. People Were Coming Out To The Street To Look. Unless you've been living in a cave for the last two months, you know how dry the west is. Today it rained, and it was a great sight to see.   You have to love the sound, the smell and the feel of the rain...especially when you haven't seen it in many, many months. It rained for over an hour and a half. We get a bit of relief from the heat and the dryness. The forecast is calling for rain for the next few days...just isolated thunderstorms, but we'll take what we can get. For today we have some relief, and no worries of fires. Wordless Wednesday...My Daughter Took This Picture At Our Pond. She used the inexpensive Kodak Play Sport. It's an under water camera and is good under water down to 3 feet. It's a five mega pixel little video and still shot camera. It's really made for video and does a nice job. Cedar Mesa, Cedaredge, Delta County, Colorado...Talk About Views. Just past the Cedaredge Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds and up the hill is Cedar Mesa. This area is to the east of Cedaredge, Colorarado in Delta County. Cedar Mesais at the base of Grand Mesa and runs south through the Surface Creek Valley.             Whether you are looking for a panoramic view over the edge and down into town, or you want a sweeping view of the valley and surrounding mountains, Cedar Mesa has it. The After Effects of Carelessness...Cedaredge Fire, Delta County, Colorado. In spite of the Delta County fire ban, and noticeable winds, some people decided to burn some weeds around their house. The upper end of the Surface Creek Road area outside of Cedaredge, CO, caught on fire. One young man was hospitalized with injuries received from trying to warn the very neighbors that started the fire. The picture to the left shows the after effect of the Cedaredge Fire. Both Delta and Montrose County, Colorado, have a fire ban in effect. This means no open fires, agricultural burning, fireworks of any kind and weed burning. Scenes From The Cedaredge Fire, Delta County, Colorado. At about 2:00 this afternoon you could hear a steady stream of sirens heading north out of town. With the hot, dry weather we've been having, this could only mean one thing. Every truck our volunteer fire department has is in use right now. Other area fire departments are also on the scene, with some firefighters coming from as far away as Montrose, Colorado. That's about 50 miles away. The slurry planes and helicopters are on the scene, too. This helicopter is grabbing water from a pond just a quarter of a mile from where he's dropping the water.                     This scene almost made me cry. I know what that black smoke means. What Should Have Been My First Choice, Was My Last Choice. This is NOT an advertisement for my company, but a bit about me. Cedaredge Land Company isn't my company...I don't own it, but I've called it my home away from home for two and half years. This is where I spend a good deal of my time, and where I've made some really great friends. I got my real estate license in July of 2007, right when the market tanked in my rural area. The slow market conditions made my new career venture seem very scary, but I had just finished up ten years as a stay at home mom, and this career choice was going to be something I did for me.
