Not the everyday Labor Day Weekend at Venice Beach/Marina Del Rey, CA Not the everyday Labor Day Weekend at Venice Beach/Marina Del Rey, CA .  I am accustomed to the usually very crowded event. I remember hundreds of people circling, looking for parking spaces as they were trying to avoid paying a fee for parking.  This year I did not see that.  So I decided to take a stroll and walk to the beach to see what was going on? I found the beach vacant, hardly anyone out there. I understand the Weather Forecasters missed their predictions. They said there will be a strong marine layer with a cold front moving in. Needless to say it was 70+ degrees and sunshine. Nevertheless most people would not listen to the Weather and would go to the beach anyway. So I wonder where the people are.   Anywa...

Venice is a district in western Los Angeles, California. It is known for its canals, beaches and circus-like Ocean Front Walk, which features performers, fortune-tellers and vendors.[1] Throughout the summer months, the boardwalk is actively entertaining, and this tradition continues on weekends in the winter. [2] It is an important tourist attraction in Southern California, [3] and has retained its popularity in part because it is an attractive location for walking and bicycling. [4]. It was home to early Beat poets and artists in Los Angeles. [5] Its area codes are 310 and a recently added 424 overlay. Its ZIP Code is 90291.    Venice of America was founded by tobacco millionaire Abbot Kinney in 1905 as a beach resort town, 14 miles (23 km) west of Los Angeles. He and his partner Fra...

Who wants to play with Vegas Bob at "Venice Beach" California?    If anyone is interested we could start with a little bike ride down the boardwalk or pier on one of these comfortable bikes, are these Schwinn Bikes?      And if we ride our bikes safe enough and don't speed we won't get picked up by one of these vehicles!      And after the bike ride we could do some fishing on the pier with some of these folks!      And after some fishing we could write our names in the sand like the people above! So what do you think ...  Who wants to play with Vegas Bob at "Venice Beach" California?    All photographs were taken by Robert Swetz (Vegas Bob) in Venice Beach California 6-1-2010 - All rights reserved -    www.SearchMyPics.com  www.VegasBuildingsForSale.com  www.VideosByVegasBob.com  www...

It's suppose to be 107 degrees in Vegas and I would rather be in Venice Beach California ... It is going to be very, very HOT in Las Vegas Nevada and I am so glad I am not working for the next few days. We are going to Aria (City Center) swimming today and Lake Mead tomorrow ... but I would much rather spend time in the area displayed in the photographs. I stopped by Venice Beach in California before I picked up Nu Nu and Sherry several days ago and I hadn't been to Venice Beach in almost 30 years boy I the years are passing by. If you are ever visit California and are by LAX Venice Beach is only minutes from the airport and it is very interesting, fun & exciting!     The beach photo at the top of the page was taken around sunset on a week day, this same beach over the weekend will h...

Having grown up in Westchester, I've always had a soft spot for Venice Beach, and I get excited when there's a reason to celebrate community. Ask any local what their favorite street is in the area and chances are they'll reply "Abbot Kinney", often followed by Main Street, both literally and geographically. On Sunday, September 27 the 25th Annual Abbot Kinney Festival with an expected attendance of 150,000 is being held. Abbot Kinney is full of original artsy shops selling anything from eclectic books, to captivating floral arrangements, design furniture, and art galleries. If you're a local like I am, then you've probably seen the same funky original personalities perform, skate board, or work out in public on the Venice Boardwalk year after year. Although I lived abroad for many year...

I've had a crazy idea for some time now that there are a lot of investment dollars in Southern California that should be going into Las Vegas real estate... that most people just don't know where to start when it comes to an out-of-state investment. I'm trying to put a knowledgeable, user-friendly local face on that proposition and I have a great team in Las Vegas who are ready to help out when I can't be there mysef. I've been investing in Las Vegas for six years now and currently own four houses there (see http://www.vrbo.com/70563.) Though I have have some well developed opinions about where the best investments are (can you say 'old' Las Vegas Right next to Las Vegas Blvd.,) I'm very familiar with all the condos from Downtown to the Strip and all of the major major subdivisions from...

It's been 8 days since my latest listing went on the LA Westside Multiple Listing Service. Frankly , I'm not surprised at all that we received 3 offers within 6 days, and the phone continues to ring off the hook for showings. You might be asking why I'm not surprised. Well, let me tell you...my client was totally and completely coachable and open to the Principle of the Three P's. Product. Pricing. Promotion. Getting a home sold quickly and for top dollar requires all three. If you don't have the best product in the market in your price range, all the promotion in the world won't sell it. And if you have a great product, and your price is too high, all the promotion in the world won't sell it. If you have lousy promotion, but a great product and price, it will sell, but probably take so...

I wrote this post last year. Then  I notice  today's Featured Group on Active Rain, wow did not even know this group existed. So I am reposting this word for word with adding this introduction as well as a picture of Best Friends Animal Society's advertisement. The housing slump hurts more than just people.  Animals suffer from the housing market downturn and current economic times too. If you happened to read the LA Times on Saturday, December 6, 2008, the Home Section (Section F) was entitled The Pet Issue.  On the front page of Section F was a picture of Baldwin, a black, 1-year old Chihuahua mix currently awaiting adoption (the plight of black dogs and black cats is also addressed in this Section).  Animal shelters across the nation, sadly, are filled to overcapacity, due largely in...

VENICE IS 3rd ON FORBES 10 BEST “SUBURBS” TO SELL A HOME Prices in Berkley are up 9% this year, making Santa Monica’s kin city top on Forbes’ Ten Best Suburbs To Sell A Home. Our fair Venice is third on that list, with the Dallas suburb of Bedford, Texas in 2nd position. Kennesaw, Georgia and Montclair, NJ, round out the top 5.   Berkeley was selected as Forbes’ 2008 best suburb to sell a home because Properties are sitting on the market for 73 days on average, the lowest of any area with positive price trends within the confines of the country's 75 largest Census-defined metro areas. Only 37% of sellers have been forced to reduce their prices, one of the lowest rates in the country. Prices are up 9% this year with homes selling for a median price of $790,986.       Forbes notes that th...

Three doors from the world famous Venice Beach, there are two very good Restaurants owned by the same two people. Two different Restaurants one is one South Side of the street the other is on the North side of the street. Literally these two are at the end of North Venice Boulevard and the corner of Pacific Avenue, in Venice, CA. Since this came first I will write about it first.  Tourist trudge by them to go to the Beach, the ones who do not stop in, are missing out. 60 N Venice Blvd., Venice, CA. 90291 (310.399.8420)  James' Beach http://www.jamesbeach.com has been around since 1981. We are sponsoring the Venice region of Los Angeles! Come and check out our photos and community details. Venice has long been an artist colony and has a rich and diverse history. Abbot Kinney founded the beach community in 1905. He had dug canals to drain the marshes and develop residential areas and which were modeled after the canals in Venice, Italy. He also developed a 1200 foot amusement pier. Venice was annexed to Los Angeles in 1925 and many of the canals were filled in around 1929 to make room for more streets. Oil was produced from 1929 to 1970. In the 50's and 60's Venice became the center for the Beat Generation and in the 60's Venice was also the center of hippie culture. Prominent residents and frequenters of Venice have included Robert Downey Jr. , Kate Beckinsale,  Julia ...
