Mount Shasta is the second highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California at 14,170 feet above sea level. It is unique because it is not a part of a mountain range; it stands alone and can be seen for about 140 miles from the southern valley floor. It was declared a National Natural Landmark in December 1976.   View Larger Map

One of the most beautiful sights that I saw while driving in Northern California this weekend was Mt. Shasta. I got this photo while driving south on Interstate 5, it’s such a large mountain you get many opportunities to get a good shot. The snow will be on the mountain virtually year-round.

HUD FHA 203k consultant Cottonwood and Redding Congratulations to Tom Glenn, long time contractor in the Redding and Cottonwood area for over twenty years. Tom has gone to the distance to gain knowledge to be able to coach you and do your 203k inspections and feasibility reports. A welcome addition to the Mike Young Team Redding. Feasibility Report - This is a report used to help you determine the offer price. It is quick and very limited in scope. The idea here is to provide you with a 30 minute inspection and a report that identifies only the deficiencies in the home or 2-4 unit building. It gives the Realtor the added info needed to negotiate the sales price. In this day and age we find the bank owned properties don't offer any disclosure as "they never lived there and it is an "as i...

This is a question often asked by clients who move from one county to another and are hoping to avoid property tax from being reassessed. Ordinarily under Proposition 13, the value of a home for property tax purposes is re-assessed to market level whenever a change in ownership takes place. This usually results in higher property taxes for the homebuyer. In November 1988, the state's voters approved Proposition 90, which is designed to induce greater turnover of homes owned by senior citizens. The measure provides anyone over the age of 55 with relief from Proposition 13 by allowing them to move from one county to another without undergoing a change in their basic property taxes. In California, person 55 years of age or older may be exempt from reassesment. This really depends on the co...

While the town of Shasta, CA (a.k.a. Old Shasta) is best known for its Historic State Park, more and more people move to this small unincorporated community of Shasta County. At one point, Old Shasta was an important commercial center and a major shipping point for mule trains and stagecoaches serving the mining towns and later settlements of northern California back in the mid 1800's.  With a population of less than 1,000, Shasta is becoming more popular for those who seek to build their own custom home on 2+ acres with total privacy and views. You can buy a 2-5 acre property with gorgeous views for about $180,000. Another reason it's gained popularity with buyers (locals and out-of-town) is it's proximity to Redding. Located just six miles West of Redding off HWY 299, Shasta is perfec...
