As Friday draws to a close, my mind is whirling around, not settling on any one thing. This entire day has been that way, from my morning yoga at home practice, to my early morning "wake up and breathe" walk. From lunch with a client/friend to our check up on the renovations of a duplex that will soon be ready for a new tenant. And dodging rain drops once again as I drove home. A nap didn't settle me down, nor did cooking a new meatless recipe for dinner (yummy!) It seems fitting that this blog post just has random pictures that I enjoy. We are in full swing for the 2019 San Francisco real estate market. Median sales prices ticked up compared to last month, though single family home prices were down compared to the same month last year. Inventory is again anemic with fewer new listings than last month or last year. The average days on market are also shortening compared to January , though they are still longer than what we saw for most of last year. January sales are typically among the lowest of the year. That is because in real estate, the data is the result of what the market looked like 30-45 days prior. So January sales reflect what was happening and on the market in late November and December. In these months, sales are slower as sellers hold off until after the holidays, particularly in the higher-priced luxury market, and many buyers take a break as well.The good news is that so far February seems to be picking up. We've gotten more inventory on the market and judging from the open houses I've hosted as well as chats with other agents, buyers seem to be out in numbers again. Possibly because of my profession as a real estate agent, or perhaps because of my role as a mother and grandmother, or maybe just because -- I've long supported charities working on housing and hunger issues. Usually my support has been financial.Thanks to the San Francisco Association of Realtor's "Give Back Day" I had an opportunity last year to volunteer at Glide Memorial serving meals to the homeless and hungry. My assignment was to welcome each client who came through the line, and hand each a breakfast tray. Each tray had been filled with a variety of breakfast items, with good protein, some carbs, a sweet and fruit. For two hours, the line never stopped. It brought home to me the immensity of the need in our city--and I know we're not unique here in San Francisco. It humbled me.... 02/17/2019

Today was a rainy Saturday in San Francisco. While that means my qi gong class at the top of Lafayette Park didn't take place, it did mean we had a couple of unexpected hours for a "field trip" we have wanted to take for a long time - a visit to Rainbow Grocery. We spent a delightful couple of hours perusing the aisles, starting with an almost overwhelming array of bulk teas, flours of all types, nuts, oils, mushrooms, nuts and seeds and then moving into the aisles rich with numerous varieties of vegetarian food - condiments, soups, protein powders of various descriptions, aisle after aisle of supplements, and food of all types. Rainy days have silver linings indeed. 2018 Wrap-Up  Generally speaking, San Francisco home sellers did quite well in 2018. The median price for single family homes grew 13% year over year, and condos and lofts median prices grew almost 5%. Homes sold rather quickly and most for more than their list price. Here's how the year shook out: Median Sales Price: The median sales price for 2018 reached $1.6 million, up 13% compared to last year as previously stated. The almost 5% bump for condos and lofts brought their median price to just over $1.2 million.Average Days on Market :Thanks to continued anemic inventory available, homes in 2018 practically flew off the proverbial shelves. Inventory continued to be strong in October although some...but not all...homes were stitting on the market longer than in months past. The majority of homes are still selling for over their list price, though the percentage over that price is less than we've seen previously. This is particularly true for single family homes, which for many months have seen great comeptition. In October the months supply of inventory for single family homes reached 2 1/2 months, which was lower than the previous month but still up double digits compared to the same month last year. This may be the result of continually rising interest rates, a mercerial stock market, or anxiety before the November midterm elections. About a dozen years ago, it dawned on my husband and me and that once we were empty-nesters we wanted a change in life-style. The Woolsey fire in Ventura and Los Angeles counties has claimed 3 lives so far, and burned many homes in the Malibu Canyon area. Over 98,000 acres have burned.In northern California the Camp Fire is the deadliest wild fire in California's history. Today  Kasey & John Boles wrote a post about their fabulous public library in Nampa, Idaho, expressing gratitude for the breadth of programs and services it offers.Expanding on that theme, I'd like to say I'm also grateful for the many Little Free Libraries that I find all over San Francisco as well as in the suburban towns on the Peninsula and elsewhere.
