I "met" Philip Raices on ActiveRain today when I read his post about the plight of homeless veterans. The magnitude of the homeless and hungry in our country is stunning. Groups here in San Francisco, and elsewhere, are working to find solutions, but it's slow going.Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem, we can each find our own small ways to help. A few little things I focus on include: serving breakfast to the homeless and hungry twice a month. Glide is one of the big groups;  3 meals a day are served 364 days a year. Breakfast is served to over 600 people daily. (Photo: breakfast crew at Glide, ready to serve diners.) being a sponsor and participating in Miracle Messages, distributing care packages and trying to connect folks on the street with loved ones. Possibly because of my profession as a real estate agent, or perhaps because of my role as a mother and grandmother, or maybe just because -- I've long supported charities working on housing and hunger issues. Usually my support has been financial. Thanks to the San Francisco Association of Realtor's "Give Back Day" I had an opportunity last year to volunteer at Glide Memorial serving meals to the homeless and hungry. My assignment was to welcome each client who came through the line, and hand each a breakfast tray. Each tray had been filled with a variety of breakfast items, with good protein, some carbs, a sweet and fruit. For two hours, the line never stopped. It brought home to me the immensity of the need in our city--and I know we're not unique here in San Francisco. It humbled me....

Mortgage Companies Only Care About Money       At least that's what I thought.  Almost every day it seems there's another settlement between a bank and the department of Justice based on something done in the mortgage world that traded consumer trust for tremendous profits.  Let's face it, the business of banking can't exist without profits.  That said, I've always thought that taking care of people leads to more profits.  People always come first with me.  For years, I felt that I was in the minority in this way of thinking - in my industry, I was.       Since joining Mason-McDuffie back in August, I've seen many examples that illustrate I'm no longer alone, and I couldn't be more proud of the people I work with.  We have a company newsletter that goes out monthly, and regularly recogn...

Thanks to Peggy Hughes, I had a blast this past Friday night. If you don't already know, Peggy has been involved in supporting the Arts for some time now, and after I read one of her blog posts regarding an upcoming show at The Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco, I knew I had to go. (Thanks again for letting me tag along Peggy).  First of All...just having the show at The Phoenix was amazing in itself.  It's a 'mid-century' lover's dream (architecturally speaking) and a rare gem located on the edge of the Civic Center/Tenderloin corridor near Dowtown.  And, as the Hotel unabashedly claims, "How many San Francisco hotels are the crash pad and launching pad for world-renowned bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Psychedelic Furs and Pearl Jam; and up-and-comers like The Killers, Bloc Pa...
