Yesterday afternoon members of the San Francisco City Chorus added holiday cheer in San Francisco's Noe Valley neighborhood. The Christmas carolers' didn't let a drizzly day or puddles dampen spirits of shoppers or merchants. Adults and children alike would stop for a moment and listen, then go on their way, smiling.Spreading holiday joy, something our neighborhoods and the SFCC does well. If you live in or near San Francisco and like to sing, check out the San Francisco City Chorus and you could be caroling, too, next year.

For coffee lovers, there's nothing quite like that first cup of coffee in the morning, whether it's a Monday morning start-the-week cup, or a weekend sit-back-and-relax cup. When it is a freshly brewed cup of Martha & Brothers coffee, it is especially delicious!Martha & Bros Coffee Company has been roasting, serving and selling coffee here in San Francisco since 1987, a skill learned in the family's native Nicaragua coffee farm. I learned about Martha & Bros Coffee Company from a chance encounter with an artist I chatted with one morning as I returned from an exercise class. He mentioned that two of his murals (depicting the owners' native country) were on the walls at the original Martha & Bros. on 24th Street in Noe Valley.(Part of the children's mural, complete with hidden pictures)T...

Rent Back to Where You Once Belonged! The last several years have witnessed “sellers’ markets” in many areas. For the uninitiated, this means that as a home buyer, it has been of utmost importance to present a strong offer to any seller in the hopes that it may be accepted over others that perhaps have fewer complicating factors. It would seem then that all sellers would benefit from this climate, however, circumstances change when some of those same sellers must immediately turn around and then become buyers themselves. One aspect of a home purchase that can bedevil the “move up” buyer has to do with how one actually coordinates the timing of any move such that one can sell, yet still keep a roof over one’s head without having to move twice. The solution can be as simple as a “rent ba...

If you explore San Francisco on foot, you'll find amazing things, both big and small, when you least expect them. One recent evening my friend Nicole and I met after work, drove to Noe Valley and parked on 24th Street, knowing we'd find a great spot there for dinner after hiking up and down hills and staircases. I'll write about our hike later, but for now, here are some pictures of the most unusual, most memorable, most unexpected sight we enjoyed, The Rainforest House, on Church Street, between 22nd and 23rd streets.Multi-talented Nicole Bratt is a phenomenal photographer and has graciously allowed me to use her photos (which are far better than my own!)Take a look at what we found!Interested in learning a bit about the story behind this mural and Nicolai Larsen, muralist? Read on.

Walking in San Francisco is a delight--you never quite know what surprises will be in store for you. Yesterday I was walking in the Eureka Valley - Noe Valley area, enjoying the challenge of ascending various long staircases. One beautiful staircase replaced two blocks of 22nd Street, blocks too steep for cars to maneuver. As I approached the top I spied: Last week I wrote a post about Little Free Libraries and talked about one I spotted along Jackson Street in the Pacific Heights area of town. Now I find another one. I think I've found a theme for my many walks through the various neighborhoods of San Francisco. Have you spotted these Little Free Libraries in your town or neighborhood? Post a picture here--I'd enjoy seeing them.

San Francisco Market Focus Report – March 2013 The March issue of Market Focus Report, issued by the San Francisco Association of Realtors characterized the market by increasing residential real estate demand and shrinking supply, resulting in bidding wars between buyers that continue to send home prices upward. Sellers are very happy, buyers - not so much. The following is an excerpt from the report, and focuses on Single Family Homes. Those of you in the know, know that you can buy a home in San Francisco throughout a broad range of neighborhoods. And depending on the neighborhood, prices currently start from $388,000 in the Southwest part of the City to an average high in the $2-$3 Million range, with the most pricey listing at $24,800,000 in Cow Hollow near the Marina district.
