Yesterday I met a friend, a real estate colleague from across the bay in Oakland. It was our day for a City walk, which we attempt to schedule quarterly. We share how our markets are doing, what new things we've learned, what challenges we face. While we talk, we walk. These pictures were taken as we walked down the hill from the Golden Gate Bridge to Crissy Field, within the space of a couple of minutes. This is the magic of San Francisco's fog!

This was the first in many Sundays that I had a chance to walk down to the farmer's market at Ft. Mason in San Francisco.A new addition was there, which appealed to me, Leo's Rocks and Plants. Leo drives over from Concord two Sundays a month to share his creations with us.These would make wonderful client gifts, and worth taking the car some future Sunday.

A few decades ago Marina was nothing like it is now. In the 70s, the Marina was considered a “Little Italy”.  There were doughnut shops, restaurants and elderly couples walking arm-in-arm on every street.Today, when one thinks of “The Marina” - bourgies, yuppies and techies come to mind. While this may be true to some extent, The Marina offers a whole lot more and still retains some of that old charm. It was common on a Sunday morning to see friends chatting, strangers waving and the neighborhood grocer sweeping the front of his store.About 100 years ago, The Marina was a little more than a large marshland. After the 1906 earthquake, tons of debris, from wrecked San Francisco buildings, was dumped here. In 1915, the landfill process began in earnest. Today, those initial dumps stand as ...

I just returned from visiting a potential condo listing in the Marina District of San Francisco. Built in 1991 after the 1989 earthquake, this building should be very safe. Third (top) floor 1 bedroom, 1 bath, 1 car parking with partial views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay. What a great location and just a short walk to Marina Green, St. Francis Yacht Club, and the Palace of Fine Arts. As I was leaving I drove around the block to Marina Blvd. and back to Divisadero Street to head on home, only a 20 minute drive in mid day. But the view was so beautiful I had to drive around the block again and take this picture of the Marina at the yacht club. It always amazing when I drive around the City on every day errands or business. My neighborhood of West Portal is beautiful in itself, bu...

By now anyone who is at all interested in the America's Cup race held on San Francisco Bay has heard it all: the stunning come-from-behind win of Oracle Team USA the outstanding sailing exhibited by New Zealand's Team Emirates and by Oracle Team USA the speed of the incredible boats the final race with the lead see-sawing back and forth between two closely matched teams Yesterday I stepped away from work for a 3-hour noontime break and headed to San Francisco's Marina Green to sit in the stands and watch the final race. The excitement of the crowd was palpable, and contagious. There were heart-stopping moments, and moments of great joy. When it was finished, I was exhausted, and I wasn't the one sailing those amazing boats! Maybe you can get a little taste of the day from this very amat...

Red Bull's Youth America's Cup Racing on San Francisco Bay, September 2013 Today, Labor Day, saw races 3 and 4 of the Red Bull America's Cup Yacht Racing on San Francisco Bay. 10 teams from 8 nations are competing in a series of 8 fleet races. This is colorful, exciting sailing, by sailors ages 19-24, and precedes the America's Cup races that begin on September 7, 2013. Watching 10 boats on the bay, jockeying for position, strategizing how to make the turns and when to tack is exhilarating; anything can (and did) happen. Light winds today favored Portugal in Race 3. The scene below shows the finish, with Portugal coming in 1st place, followed in close succession by Switzerland in 2nd and USA in 3rd:   As you can see, today was a picture-perfect day on San Francisco Bay, and the racing d...

On a short little holiday break visiting family in California.  So fun to take in some of the tourist activities from a place I myself used to live.  Since moving to Seattle in 1990, I have always said I left my heart in San Francisco.  I still love it, but over the years my heart has moved to Seattle.  Seattle and San Francisco ar eactually quite similar.  Here are some shots we got of the Marina District including the Palace of Fine Arts  and the Golden Gate Bridge...
